Excessive Yawning and Constant Need to Breathe Deep
Posted , 480 users are following.
For the past few days, I've been yawning a lot, much more than average (once every few minutes I feel the need). If I'm not yawning I'm breathing in as deep as I can to get similar "satisfaction". Often I cannot get the "satisfaction" from these and so the urge grows and grows, meaning it can get quite uncomfortable. When I do manage it, the urge is back a few seconds later. This is whether I'm tired or not, almost all day.
I'm not particularly anxious about anything in particular, and get the same amount of sleep as before this started.
This also happened at some point within the past year which continued for a month or two if I remember correctly.
Does anyone have any idea what it is or how to make it a bit better?
Thanks.

Hi everyone. So happy I found this forum. I've been suffering from this for the last 6 months. It's really affecting my life and I break down crying every week because I can't understand why my body can't just do what it's naturally supposed to! I just went to see a second pulmonologist for a second opinion because the first one said it was anxiety. This second one prescribed me steroids for inflammation and an inhaler, but it's been one week and there's been zero difference. Both specialists said my heart is healthy, so now I'll be going in for a second chest CT scan. The first one 6 months ago found nothing, and hoping they find nothing again, but I also need an answer! I wake up gasping for air, I yawn 200 times a day for that satisfying breath that last 30 seconds. I've been going to therapy for the past year, but even my therapist said it's definitely not anxiety and she would advise against any anti-anxiety or antidepressants because this is something else. I don't know what to do.

Firstly, I think I replied to you already but no problem my sister, I am always there to help you if I can. Hooray, good thing is your heart is OK, that's is important. That's something positive already. Then if you think that we are going to live our lives everyday problem free, that's not going to happen. We adjust along the way and get accustomed to it as we move along. Don't be discouraged, think positive. I guarantee you, there is sure some positive things amongst the negative. Because the facts about live is that, positive things comes from negative things and vice versa. Ask Jesus and Mary for help. Hope this and my earlier messages has helped you. Let me know, I am always there to listen. I pray for you too. Amen

I was one of the persons who started this discussion, and proper breathing, and suggestions from others stopped this condition. I was always trying to get the fulfilling "yawn" which you have to work at. Eventually I would get relief and then have to do it again. I would pray for the complete yawn which would temporarily make me feel normal. Imagine a yawn that you could not finish.
I was cured by breathing exercises, and calming down my breathing, by breathing with my diaphram, and slowing down my heartbeat.

hi flutterbypie,
since april of 2019, i have been experiencing the same thing. It happened for about 1 month, it disappeared and then came back this march 2020. i got it checked both times and nothing was found. i just wanted to let you know that you are not crazy at all. literally your description is identical my experience. i hope we both find an answer. when i did get it check the second time, the doctor suggested for me to follow up with a pulmonologist which i havent done yet.

Hey. yeah, I was a little relieved that i am not the only one with these kind of symptoms 😐 i have getting this exact same feeling since 3 months now. It goes on and off. My doc says it is due to anxiety but now I am constantly worried that i might have some disease. I got it checked but turns out everything is fine. Will keep you posted if i find something.
although last month, when i experienced cardiac anxiety, taking propanolol helped. but then my doc advised me to stop the medication after 3 weeks.

Hey. Were you able to control your symptoms? I am getting this exact same feeling f about 3 months now. I have got a few blood tests and a chest xray done and got nothing. doc says everything is normal and it is just anxiety. but with everything going on, i am constantly worried that my deep breathing and frequent yawning are due to some health issues.

I feel this way as well. it's been going on for about 9 weeks now when my anxiety started and I starting taking Prozac, I thought it was the medicine and I don't like it anyway so I quit taking it. I haven't taken it for over 6 weeks and I stilldon't have any relief. it's so uncomfortable and annoying. it gets better sometimes when I laydown and relax in bed

I've had this a few times over the years. The last week I've had a bad episode of it. Previous episode a couple of years ago I zeroed in on a certain supplement I was taking that when stopped, the issues went away (Acetyl L Carnitine was the supplement). This time around, I haven't been taking anything new nor changed medicines.
HOWEVER -= one thing of difference - I started back in the gym after almost 4 month hiatus, and after a much too brief ramp up cycle of 2 weeks, I had a 3 hour workout session - one hour of weights, 45 minutes of cardio [treadmill], then 15 minutes of Sauna.. then an hour walk. On the treadmill, I was listening to a podcast about Tibetan Monks and their breathing rituals, and how they would expand their lungs (breath deep, hold, exhale). I did this while on the treadmill. The sauna was also tough, and felt very lightheaded when leaving. Lo and behold, this "Air Hunger" ritual started again the next day. Something of what I did exercising triggered it. Perhaps the deep breathing on the treadmill, and/or the sauna.
Regardless, If I distract myself and try not to dwell It retreats. But as soon as I think about it again, it comes back. I almost fathom.. this is some sort nerve stimulation or brain function (wire?) that enters some feedback loop, making your brain think it needs air. I bought an o2 finger tester to make sure I wasnt having an actual o2 issue - And it was normal. I truly think its some sort of chemical issue with the brain/nerves/nervous system.

I think the same, I think we get it triggered by thinking about it. I almost got rid of it in a year when I was exercising and then I smoked a cigar and that b***h ruined it all of me, it sent me back into the darkness in just a one day. I now struggle with it again. I think making deep breaths make things work, you need to fight it and not do that and also not to think about it.

Does anyone have experience with just not taking the big needed breath? I try to not do it but I get scared that I'll faint or something... I know im not supposed to pay attention to it and not take the big breath but I cant! Its my breath at the end of the damn day. What will happen if I just decide not to catch the needed breath.
