Excessive Yawning and Constant Need to Breathe Deep

Posted , 480 users are following.

For the past few days, I've been yawning a lot, much more than average (once every few minutes I feel the need). If I'm not yawning I'm breathing in as deep as I can to get similar "satisfaction". Often I cannot get the "satisfaction" from these and so the urge grows and grows, meaning it can get quite uncomfortable. When I do manage it, the urge is back a few seconds later. This is whether I'm tired or not, almost all day.

I'm not particularly anxious about anything in particular, and get the same amount of sleep as before this started.

This also happened at some point within the past year which continued for a month or two if I remember correctly.

Does anyone have any idea what it is or how to make it a bit better?

Thanks.

Hello FlutterbyPie and to all who have struggled with this problem - I have had this same problem for YEARS and I finally know what is causing it. It is a form of acid reflux called silent reflux. It often goes untreated because without the burning and throat soreness doctors don't pick up on it. But mine did! I would start by trying an over-the-counter (generic) course of Prilosec. If it seems to make a difference, it's highly possible that you have acid reflux, and it's important that you speak with your doctor about it because it can lead to other problems.

I had the same problem - my boyfriend at the time thought it was anxiety, one doctor told me it might be exercise-induced asthma, I even tried Tums and Pepto but nothing worked until I started the Prilosec, and I even had to go on a prescription strength. I don't need it all the time, but in periods when I'm eating a lot of tomato/acidic stuff and chocolate it can flare up. Read up on acid reflux and foods to avoid - the same thing applies even though you don't have the other symptoms.

Good luck all - and most importantly, know that you're not crazy! If more of us reported these symptoms to our doctors then it wouldn't be such a mystery and more of us would get help!

thanks for your information.  I have been feeling a bit better since my post.  I have had acid reflux in the past but stopped taking prilosec because I was not having any of the burning or direct symptoms.  Out of desperation, I stoped drinking coffee (drank 2-3 cups a day) and stopped drinking my 1-2 glasses or red wine each night,  I am feeling a bit better.  I have also been trying to eat better.  Those things I just mentioned are acidic.  I decided to stop all of that out of deperation because those are the things I do in excess.  I will keep everyone up to date.

I am on seroquel and my doctor claims it's to "help me sleep"

Yes I have bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety -but the night I didn't take my Seroquel, I had the EXACT problem as you.

Perhaps you should look into seeing a psychiatrist.

Don't see a doctor because they are ignorant and unfamiliar with medications like these. Seriously

    Hi, everyone,

For almost a whole month I wasn't able to take deep breaths, but I can do it now and here's what I did.

All I did was drink a hot lemonade (hot water with lemon and honey bee, only) 4 nights in a row right before going to bed. Do this after brushing your teeth since it's better not to drink cold water after drinking a hot lemonade.

Second natural medicine I took was honey bee, lemon and margarine, all this melt in a spoon, and must be still warm. This may sound bizarre for some people, but since it is all natural, it won't have any second effects.

These 2 things worked for me, so you guys can give it a try and may have you healthy again.

    Wish you all the best.

Can you give us exact recept please?

No, I mean honey bee. Find it with the name "Busy Bee Bear 100% Pure Clover Honey, 12 oz" on Wal-mart or Amazon.

Sure, just put a cup of water into the microwave and then add lemon juice to the hot water (an entire lemon).

For the second one just put a little of margarine into the microwave a couple of seconds until it's melt. Then put it in a spoon, add some drops of lemon juice to it and finally add a few of the honey bee. Drink it while it is still hot, but not as much as you're gonna burn your mouth.

Anyone taking Singulair having these issues? I've been taking for 6 weeks having these issues. After reading side effects for the drug it shows it could cause symptoms. Just asking

    • Posted

Been off Singulair now for 3 days now and my breathing and anxiety issues have slowed or almost gone away. I am wondering if some of the symptoms are the side effects of asthma meds. I will report back in a week

Could be. Just like Xanax is formulated for anti axneity, but if your body develops a tolerance and dosn't receive the does it needs then the exact opposite happens which would be severe axneity. I'm not talking about withdrwal symtoms, that's a seperate issue to its own. Same go's for anti arithmetics. They are designed to keep your heart beating at a normal rythem, but sometimes the exact opposite can happen if the dose is inncorrect. Sometimes it's a slippery slope with these medications.

Hi, the same thing happens to me, i tend to freak out when i can't take a deep breath, it has gotten so bad that i felt like i was going to faint. Everytime i want to take a deep breath it feels like my chest is tight, like someone sitting on my chest to prevent me to take a deep breath.

It is pollution, hectic work schedule and to some extent our nature are main causes.

You yawn as your brain is gaining more oxygen.

Was there any stress, anxiety, that could started this?

    Have you seen your GP?

    Blood tests etc?

I felt the same exact way. In fact I'm yawning for breath right now and I can't sleep because of it. I have gone to the doctor before and I really don't know what causes it but I've learned that if you keep breathing through it the yawns kind of go away. Someonetimes I try so hard to yawn because I feel like I need air and the worst part is that sometimes the yawn doesn't come so you feel like your suffocating. Just try breathing through the yawns instead of giving into them and eventually you will be able to yawn and then they typically pass
