Excruciating pain after gallbladder removal help please

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had my gallbladder out 12 days ago. Pain after but was doing well . Then after day 7 had massive pains in right side. Stinging stabbing burning pain !

Ended up back in hospital . Had scans and no stones left over and all looks good !

One of the small keyhole scars seems to be the cause of the pain as when I push it the pain radiates !! I have a dip where this is like it's been sewn to something . Feels tight and feels like it's pulling .

They now think nerve damage as can't find anything else wrong ! Did some googling and the horror stories of pain like this years after gallbladder remover make me want to cry !! I can't live like this and feel if it's nerve pain my life is over !!

Did anyone else get pain like this and did it go away?? Thanks clare x

Hi Clare. I did not have issues that soon after surgery. I didn't start having issues until 5 months later. I am so sorry you are in pain. Did they give you anything for the pain? Are you following a low fat diet?

I'm actually still in hospital !! On oral Morphein but it doesn't help at all !! They said once gallbladder was gone I could eat what I want !! Why would there be a need for no fat with out a gallbladder?? I thought it was just because of the stones ??

      Seeing a pain specialist tomorrow.

Jennifer did you get your pain took away ? Did anything help or is it something you live with ?? Thanks for the quick reply I'm stressing a lot xx

Oh wow. #1 - the gallbladder itself processes fats in the digestion tract. Without a GB, it's very difficult to process fat, therefore, go low fat. TRUST ME when I say this. You will be doubled over in pain if you eat "whatever you want". Why are you still in the hospital? Was your surgery open or keyhole? Awesome re: pain specialist, you need that. Long story short, I am in pain every day over a year later. Do NOT let that freak you out as every one is different. Hang in there. Let us know what specialist says tomorrow. Hugs xxx

It's was only 12 days ago I had surgery . Went home but ended up back in with so much pain on Saturday . It's now Monday night here .. Well I think lol hard to tell time anymore !! Had ultrasound yesterday and MRI scan today .. I really hope I heal !! And all I've read in the Internet is if you get pain control early on it helps .. So fingers crossed for tomorrow !! I've done some research so gonna ask for meds and injection of local anasthetic as that can help pin point if it's actually nerve damage x

Jennifer what does your pain feel like ?? And how do I go no fat ?? Or is it just low fat ?? Need to loose some weight so won't hurt me lol and if it helps all good .. But if it's nerve pain surely that won't help that ?? Confused xx

Big sigh. My pain is where my GB used to be, and on my right side mainly. It's like a burning sensation somedays, other days just discomfort. I have had a thousand tests, they can't find anything. go LOW fat, not no fat. Oatmeal is great for breakfast, english muffins, lean meats, low fat cheeses, I had to give up hot coffee as it literally streaked right through my body, but everyone is different. My dad had his GB out a few years ago, he can eat anything he wants. I hate him. LOL. Just err on the side of caution. Do some reliable research on it too. Google "Diet after gallbladder surgery" and you will find quite a bit of info.

You just had major surgery. It could very well be the incisions themselves causing the burning. Keep them clean and once they are healed over, massage them gently to help break up the scar tissue. Nerve pain could be the cause of pain. Let us know what the doctors say.

One thing to note is that it is going to take time for your body to figure things out. The bile that was once bring stored in your GB is being deposited directly and constantly into your intestines through a tube that just got cut into. That itself causes burning. I have to take questran and i found that the burning goes away.

Hi I'm 5 months post GB surgery and I still feel a burning in my chest every time I eat and stomach. I believe that with some people, especially if was an emergency surgery like mine, it takes longer for things to heal or get better. What you saying it sounds like nerves perhaps damage, and I'm so sorry that you're feeling like that. I felt the same in the beginning now I tried to live without thinking too much about it anymore also because i 've had a baby 2 months before my surgery and she keeps my mind off my pains nowadays. All luck to u. Best wishes
