excrutiating leg pain - spinal stenosis

Posted , 3 users are following.

hello all, am new here.

I've had spinal stenosis for 2 years now (only diagnosed a year ago), have had the epidural for the pain but it only last three weeks, the next step is an op which I have decided against for the moment.

Just wondering what pain relief you have tried for severe leg pain that actually works.

I am now on co-codamol but all it does is make me feel dozy (dozier than normal) and doesnt relieve the pain. Is there anything that you have found to be efficient.

Am so frustrated at not being able to walk further than about 100 yards without severe pain, i used to love walking but now everything is curtailed and i'm turning into a grumpy so and so.

Thanks for listening.

    Hi Moo

I'm sorry to hear how you've suffered these last two years, it must be awful to say the least!!!

I had a prolapsed L5/S1 disc since Nov last year and had a microdiscectomy in May this year, still on that long road to recovery :D.

I was hospitalised last November and a Pain Specialist prescribed Gabapentin for my nerve pain (I had pain from my buttock down to my foot). Well all I can say it was a life saver and got me moving (I have 3 kids, 2 of them under 3).

Gabapentin is safe cos it's what epileptics take every day of their life, you can have up to a maximum of 1800mg per day, I was on 1200mg.

If it is nerve pain that you're suffering, I really would recommend trying these tablets. The only side effects I found were tiredness and feeling fuzzy headed.

Best wishes though, I wish you a speedy relief from the pain.

Thank you both so much for your replies. I'm so sorry that you are suffering too sad Jude, how on earth did you cope with the pain and coping with tiny children too?

I have written down your pain relief suggestions and will have a chat with my Doctor this week and hope that she will be open to this. I so want to get back to enjoying a walk with my dog and the normal things in life.
