Excrutiating pain after total ceramic hip replacement

Posted , 147 users are following.

I had a ceramic total hip replacement 6weeks ago and I'm in agony. I'm 40 yeats old and had avascular necrosis of the rigjt hip.I had a titanium disc replacement 6 years ago in my lower back so I was aware going into surgery it would not be easy. However, when the epidural wore off after the hip repkacement I was in agony, in fact I was in tears and did not sleep a wink until after 5 days when sheer exhaustion set in I have pain in my groin when I move my leg it feeks like it's grating on something.I also have pain down to my knee including my knee. My lower back again is in agony also my right buttock feels like it's being pinched all the time all the way down the back of my leg which I guess is sciatica. I saw the surgeon who preformed the hip replacement today, he says all my pain is coming from my back. What I can't umderstand is why am I in more pain after the op then before. My surgeon was very unhelpful saying I need refered on for my back by my G.P. Has anyone else had excrutiating pain after a total hip replacement. I can't believe the surgeon dismissed my pain and said the hip is fine when the horrendous pain im in only started after the operation. Like I say I'm looking for people with similar situation or knowledge and advice.

Sorry this is a year later for you and i hope you are fully restored Chris. I had a doudle hipreplacement about three months ago. Six weeks into recovery after hip#2 on the right the 'good hip' left started acting up and after four different sport specialists I am worse than ever. Awaiting consultation with surgeon on Wednesday hoping for saome understanding about what is going on with massive lower left back problems. I still do not know if it's a trapped nerve, a muscular knot from six months not walking, or something more sinister! throw any light on this situation, anyone?

Dis you make any great discoveries Chris?

I haven't been on this site for a long time.

When did you have your surgery?

I'm 2 1/2 us post op for left hip replacement. I too experience severe pain.

But another problem is I couldn't lift up my leg by itself.

Even now still I have to help it up. The pain is much better now.

Sometimes there are tiny fractures at the place where the doctor's hammer in the replacement hip. Other times the new hip can be too long or short. Which can cause knee and hip problems.

Sometimes there is nerve damage and that's really painful.

Be your own advocate stand firm.

Be thinking of you in my prayers. Hugs

I have had both of my hips replaced and my right one I had to have replaced twice. Actually I had 5 surgeries in about 13 months and was in a wheelchair for 3 years because of having a vascular necrosis and then turned around an8d before I had to have my right hip replaced for the second time I just located it twice I have been in excruciating pain since I had two surgeries they did a buy a bilateral hip core decompression which did not help at all and I had all these started in the year of 2010 2011 and now I am still going around in circles with all my doctor I am now starting to think thinking out of the box and going to another town I don't know what else to do my doctor's my orthopedic doctors now refuse to see me because of my back I am that much pain where I can barely walk

The pain that you're experiencing from your hip replacement sounds very much like my sons he had bilateral hip replacement and doesn't have problems with his right one but he really does with his left I wish you luck on your new surgery

Hi sue sorry your in pain I just don't know what's going on with all theses hip replacement so many people are in pain after being told we would be pain free after op but it's just not the case l have had 18 months of it keep going back my consultant is giving me a Mri scan now he's said X-ray are fine. You must keep going back don't stop  till you get some answers as it has taking me 18 months and am still in pain. I'm on the list for my right one but after hearing people I know having the same surgeon and being in the same pain it makes you wonder is it the hips or the surgeon ??? I really do hope you get it sorted out as its no fun being in constant pain do let me know how you get on don't give up Janie
