Excrutiating Pain and Depressed

Posted , 3 users are following.

My partners daughter aged 22 collapsed in agony 18 months ago and was rushed to hospital with what was diagnosed a kidney stone. Subsequent tests showed the stone passed but she has been left in excruciating pain so much so that her job has been compromised, her life is on hold but all the medical staff at her GP surgery and hospital have said it is nerve damage and she will require pain management. She has undergone several tests is on a high DAILY dosage of morphine and a pain management regime which is proving fruitless. She is 22, very low and surely shouldnt have to put up with this ongoing indefinietely.

Your help, thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear of those problems.

Nerve damage can take a long time to heal - ask any sufferer of shingles and you will learn that pain can last for months and sometimes well over a year.

She should keep checking back to her GP/pain clinic if the painkillers aren't working and asking for a change of tablets.

If the source of the nerve damage is in the urinary track then she should keep up her fluid intake.

Slowly but surely, the body will heal itself.

Meantime, continue to give her support and patience.

Thanks so much for your reply. I appreciate your comments and of course we are completely supportive. She is on medication to help with the damaged nerves, this is making her gain weight.......not good for any 22y/o and an extremely high dose of morphine to ease the pain which has been prescribed by a specialist but which her own docs are reluctant to keep repeating the prescription.

We have actually been told she may have to live with this and I dont buy in to this theory as there is so much expertise aroiund these days that she shouldnt have to live with it. We really are disillusioned, following all sorts of scans and tests we are no further ahead. I would take her private if I felt some good would be done but all the indications are that everything has been done already.

You could always ask for a second opinion which is a legitimate request and might bring fresh thinking to the treatment.

    Good luck.
