Exercise in a swimming pool after total knee replacement

Yesterday, I went to the swimming pool at my leisure club after a long absence. I indulged in a bit of sauna, steam and jacuzzi, thinking that I was helping my knee. Earlier in the afternoon, I walked very quickly to a local coffee shop to meet a friend. My leg had stiffened up again when I got off the bus to the leisure club. I also walked 20 lengths, much less than my usual 50, which I'd done with the greatest of ease a few weeks ago. When I left the club, I was in pain and could hardly walk down the street back to my house. I was in pain all night and I'm still not right. What am I doing wrong. I can't seem to win where activity is concerned.

Maybe you have overdone it. Take it easy for a few days and see if it's any better.

That is exactly what my friends have told me. I think that is exactly what I have done.

I don't seem to be able to get the balance right between too much and too little activity.

It changes, I used to have to take it easy for a week, now it's down to a day 😃

it was the pool that helped me heal actually. Sounds like you overdid it. Apply ice and go easy

Okay , I have had both knees done with 7 year gap. Dont overdo it , but cant remember being in much pain at your stage . If its hurting then rest and ice , I was lucky once pain went both times by about 8-10 weeks never returned , okay sometimes a but stiff, ache ,sore but not enough to take a panadol.I just walked , went to water aerobics and kept bending and straightening . Give it time , seems we are all different with healing , I never had much swelling either so that helped me . Just go slow , but if this different pain doesnt go then see your surgeon, dont leave it .Good luck , you maybe have overdone it for you . Do what you feel comfortable with

I had virtually no pain for around 11 weeks. These problems only arose after I started to get back into normal activities. In retrospect, I didn't do myself any favours dancing at a party on 30th June and walking 7 miles along the seafront at Blackpool (not all in one go) two days later. I started having these issues a few days after that. I rested all day yesterday and am not in pain today and my knee is bending fine.
