Exhaustion

Hello!! I've been plodding along on 10mg since 20th July, but 2 or 3 days ago my Achilles' tendon started to get stiff when walking. Today my energy level is zero! Stayed in bed until 14.00!!! Not at all me!! Had a blood test on Tuesday and CRP up to 5 from 4. I haven't over done it at all to warrent this exhaustion.

Feeling very down over this! Does PMR come back to bite you just when you think you're dealing with it???

    All too often yes!

Is it just one achilles causing problems? Are you on Medrol or just pred? And have you been on an antibiotic recently?

Hello Eileen, yes on pred, and yes only my right achilles tendon!! No I haven't been on antibiotics, but I have started taking Adcal calcium with VitD for 3 weeks that's the only thing different since I started on 10mg of pred.

      Thank you Andrea x

Medrol can occasionallu cause achilles tendon problems and together with certain abx it is much more likely. However, sounds like no worries there. I think it is a bit soon for calcium deposition to be considered as a problem - but did your doctor check your blood calcium levels before you started the AdCal?

Keep an eye on it though - it can happen just anyway and if it gets worse it can be a pain to recover from (been there, done that!) so running it by your doctor would perhaps be a good idea.

Try icing it and heel inserts in good supportive shoes/trainers may help too. I googled achilles tendonitis and a site called orthoinfo gave some good tips - save me writing them all out. There are descriptions of exercises that may help as well.

Cheers for that Eileen, I'm with my rheumatologist on Thursday I'll mention it to him. I had a Dexa scan, no Osteoporosis, but they felt the bones were thinning slightly so a recommendation to take Adcal.

If you are on pred it is standard procedure to give you calcium and vit D supplements so you should have been on that from the start, dexascan or not. It's all I have taken and my bones were still fine last time density effectively unchanged by nearly 4 years of pred.
