Exhaustion and intrusive thoughts...

Hi everyone,

I just finished my first week of sertraline and I'm only on 25mg along with 5mg buspirone, for help dealing with a bad case of health anxiety. The first few days were ok, I was just very tired, but thought if thats the worst of it, I can do this. The past two days though, I just feel plagued by horrible intrusive thoughts. I keep seeing these flashes of my wife and son getting hurt and the images just won't stop. Also upsetting/embarrassing memories from my past seem to surface for no reason, things that I usually didn't ever think about, or didn't ever really act as a trigger for anxiety. I'm just hoping this patch will end, it's making me miserable. It's hard to explain, just feeling so weird. My wife is patient and understanding with all I'm dealing with right now, but I just can't share this, I feel like I'm going crazy or will sound psychotic. I guess I'm just seeing that I'm not alone with these symptoms. Sorry for the rambling.

You are not alone intrusive thoughts are part of the anxiety. I just finished a week on 50mgs. Mornings are the worst for me by evening starting to feel better. Intrusive thoughts are frightening just remember they are only thoughts which never are acted out. I am mostly anxious but have bad waves of depression I can’t seem to get over the death of my oldest daughter five years ago at 26.

Thanks for your reply. That interesting, I usually feel better in the evening too. The first couple hours after waking up seem to the hardest.

Hey get it out man it definitely helps.  Zoloft is usually rough for the first few weeks me personally I had anxiety like I’d never had before during the first two weeks.  Hopefully they gave you some Xanax or something of that nature to help with that.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately my doctor is overly cautious about anything like Xanax or Ativan, despite my history of never wanting to take any sort of medication when possible. So I got buspirone instead, it doesn't really seem to do anything.

Yeah a lot of doctors are overly cautious now adays and I get it but from my understanding that’s pretty standard for the most part to prescribe a benzo when starting a antidepressant especially if you have anxiety because in most people it increases anxiety for the first few weeks until it starts to take effect.
