Exhaustion, non existent lifestyle from coughing

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have chronic non stop coughing 24/7,since 2009.

Diagnosed with Asbestosis in 2010, and now Bronchiestasis in 2015.

Nothing  prevents the coughing, but some respite from using a Nebulised Diamorphine 4 times a day.

My question is whether Concentrated Oxygen might help? ( I have quite good sp02 levels most of the time)  but my reasoning is that the concentrated Oxygen might help because any change in, = Air Flow, number of people in same room, air outside  my house, smoke, perfumes smells etc all make the coughing 10 times worse.

So maybe this would help me live a bit of a normal life.

But I don't qualify the normal reasons.

I don't know how else I can get a way of trying it to find out.

The experts say they don't think so. But no one has tried as far as I can find.

    Hello

Do you know how the chronic cough started?

If it's completely refractory to treatment.. Look for "Irritable Larynx Syndrome", "Post Viral Vagal Neuropathy", or "Larynx Irritable Syndrome" as it's a common misdiagnosed form of chronic cough. Read about those and see if you match. Look for "Sensory Neuropathic Cough" as well.

I think you should demand that you be given something which will certainly not make you feel worse, and if oxygen therapy works then all the better! Good luck with your illness, I hope you get a "better quality of living", ( which is what you quote to get the oxygen you may need) on the NHS!

Hi George I know what your saying but it's a  complex situation. You need the nebuliser to open your airways which makes perfumes etc irritate you and make you cough. With your diagnosis are you classed as copd at all ? If so your oxygen level needs to be lower than the norm. As for concentration which I know is your question I don't think that could be done do to gaseous exchange etc in your respiratory system...... I think you would have to go in a proper chamber/ oxygen tent
