Experience with anxiety on lexapro?

I started taking 5 mg of Lexapro about three months ago (early April) and then increased to 10 mg (early May). I have been slowly tapering off Lexapro for the past two weeks because ever since I transitioned to 10 mg I have felt an increased sense of dread about certain social situations. It almost feels as if the outcome of these situations is life or death, and I feel like I need to avoid or escape these situations in order to feel a sense of relief from this overwhelming anxiety/dread. While, I have always struggled with social anxiety, this extreme level of anxiety doesn't seem normal for me.

For example, I was chosen to do an honors thesis project and had to drop it because I felt so anxious about attending meetings with my project mentors. I have also been dating recently and found someone that I really like. However, the majority of the time I feel incredibly anxious and distressed before and during our dates and have automatic negative thoughts that prevent me from enjoying the moment.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Or felt increased anxiety that is triggered by specific situations?
