experiences after surgery..can you use your hands properly now?

Hi. I am 4 weeks post surgery on my right (dominant) hand. The sooner you are diagnosed the better. I waited a couple of weeks after diagnosis before having surgery. I am pleased with the results. My wrist is very weak but I can do more than I expected at this stage. Good luck.

I've posted this before and I will again.  From everything I've heard, both here and from people I know, I would not have open carpal surgery.  I would do what it takes to find a surgeon who does the endoscopic carpel tunnel release.  Both of these procedures eventually end up in the same place, with complete remission of carpal tunnel pain.  

However, the recovery is vastly different.  I have now had the surgery on both hands.  There was complete and immediate relief from the carpal tunnel pain I'd had for years.  The surgery took about 15 minutes.  I had a very large soft bandage for two weeks, which I was told to keep clean and dry.  They gave me huge plastic gloves to cover it with for showering, etc.  In two weeks I removed the bandage and the one stitch (was told I could do that) visited the surgeon, and that was it.

This procedure is quite common on the Western US coast.  I asked my surgeon why it isn't done everywhere.  She said the surgeon has to learn the procedure and has to have the appropriate tools to do it with.  If you're told it's not as good, then you're getting a false answer.  

And finally, I would not wait to do your surgery.  The longer you wait, the more nerve damage you can experience.  Your hands can become weaker, etc.  There is no value in waiting.  It won't go away by itself.

I was fine within a few days when my right hand was done 6 weeks ago. I'm 2 weeks out of Carpal Tunnel Release on my left hand. I can do almost everything I did before. Both hands were rated as severe. Only problem is that my  index finger is partially without feeleing. Although feeling returns gradually every day. That does not interfere with what I do. Each post op situation is different. One thing for sure...I'm not waking up to pain and tingling at night anymore. Hope this helps you out.

I had the tests done and it came back all was fine, I explained in detail to my consultant of my symptoms, this was in the October I was in for surgery 12/12/14 once in he advice my nerve was squashed and hour glass shaped so it was CTS even thought test showed different?? I am around 11weeks post op feeling still not back go back to see consultant next month but personally I feel it is worse than before but still early days. I have to be patient I also work in office I was off 7 weeks bk on phase return, I hope this helps god bless x
