Experiences with depth perception (sports) with Monovision?

Hello!
I'm considering monovision vs. mini-monovision.
Does anyone here have monovision and play sports? What is your experience with depth perception in that setting? Any other experiences or insights very much welcomed.
Thank you!!

hi, I used one contact lens for distance for many years and played golf with little real issue. In fact I found it harder to play with corrective glasses. However I had cataract surgery this spring and have the monovision and find adjusting has been slow. I am not sure why. As a result I am now wearing prescription sunglasses with correction for the near eye (so both eyes see distance) when I play ,and while it is fine for distance my putting has suffered. Have no idea why. I also miss the clarity of vision for reading, etc now that I CANNOT take that distance lens out, but I knew that was possible going in. Not sure this helps. I keep hoping I will adjust eventually. Pat

Why is it you cannot exchange the lens? Did you develop PCO and have to have a YAG?

I was referring to the ability to remove the contact as I could before I had the cataract surgery. Now with the permanent lens I have the convenience of not needing a contact lens or glasses really, but never have that perfect reading vision, that I especially enjoyed at bedtime, though I test at 20/20. As I said, however, perhaps it will improve as it has been only less than three months. I would be curious as to others views.

Pat, thank you for your comment. My ophthalmologist just today mentioned that some of his golfing patients have had issues, alas. I'm sorry you're experiencing that.
I also appreciate your noting that the near vision is definitely different with a far IOL rather than a far contact lens. I'm not looking forward to that part, but I guess it's inevitable.
I'm assuming that your far IOL was placed in the same eye as your far contact lens? That must be your dominant eye, yes?
Did you have both eyes done with IOLs for cataracts?
How different are the lens powers between the two eyes?
Do you have any astigmatism?
I wonder if progressive lenses to expand intermediate vision would help your putting?

thanks for clarifying - thought reference was to IOL vs contact lens.

I did have iols in both eyes and both corrected for astigmatism..and paid a $4,000. premium. And yes the dominant (right) eye was corrected for distance just as the contact had been. The surgeon shortened the disparity a bit in hopes of making the adjustment easier, so now I am a bit less nearsighted in the left eye. I did always enjoy my nearsightedness as I could easily read any tiny print and find any splinter my children or husband came up with, but the change has not been bad. I enjoy not having glasses or contacts, except my prescription sunglasses for golf and driving, as I always wore sunglasses anyhow. I am still adjusting but am confident that it will get better, and am pretty happy overall. I thought about it a long time so I feel like it was my choice and I knew there was no perfect answer. Make your own decision with the best information you can get and know there may not be an absolute perfect solution. Most people here are unhappy when they haven't done that and they feel they were misled or didn't know their options.

Very true Pat - I am a researcher by nature and plan out holidays, finances etc so when I was diagnosed with cataracts at 53 both eyes I did look into the surgery and lens options and stumbled on these forums. Been happy with my result. Most people are the opposite a d only research health and wellness once something goes wrong.
