Lisa there are other medications for blood pressure equally as good as amilodipine. I took it for about 5 years and the side effects krept up on me lots of them too and finally when I was swelling up like a baby elephant I thought enough enough, reading up and all these bad reviews for the medication was also a helping factor and my doctor was very good and changed my tablets immediately and within a month I was feeling better and still am. Life is too short to suffer my blood pressure was very very high and now it is back to 110/70 not even the amilodipine got it that low. See your GP and I am sure he will find you another medication and give you peace of mind, good luck kind regards Debbie

I have been taking amlodopine for some years and after reading your posting I am wondering if this medication is causing my bizarre bowel problems.   It has never occurred to me before but I suppose it is possible.   I have as many as 16 - 20 BMs in 24 hours.. It is not diahorrea and I am continually  woken up throughout the night.  Unfortunately, the medical profession doesn't seem to take me seriously and think that I am exaggerating!  I have had an MRI scan and a flexible, sygmoidoscopy and apart from diverticulosis there doesn;t appear to be anything causing this change in bowel habits which is ruining my life.   I have always eaten a very healthy diet, so as a last resort I am going to suggest a change in medication for my high blood pressure, so thank you for drawing my attention to this matter.
