Explant too risky, was told to me. I have NOT had YAG yet. What are your experiences?

I'm very unhappy with my 1 1/2 year old, -3, toric IOL. It is useless in what I do these days. My surgeon was trying to accommodate me, when I told her I like to read in bed. The other eye was set at -2, which is almost perfect for going on screens, drawing close-up, going for walks. What do I do?

You should also have the option of doing Lasik. An adjustment of 1.0 D is quite small and should be easily possible unless you have any contradictions to Lasik. I am investigating that possibility to make a small correction to my sphere (0.5 D), and cylinder (0.75 D astigmatism). My ideal target was -1.5 D for a close vision eye, and was under that for sphere. Have not gotten to the first in person consult yet to see what they say. My cataract surgeon recommended it and says it is very safe for minor corrections.

Having Lasik prior to cataract surgery is a complicating factor as it makes it more difficult to get an accurate measurement of the eye to calculate required power. But having it after cataract surgery should not be a problem.

If I am understanding you correctly both of your eyes are set pretty severe myopic and you want one eye to go back 1.0 (D) in the hyperopia direction.

This would mean you are use to wearing glasses to drive and for other activities.

Explant is always risky and from what I understand the longer you wait the more risky.

Couldn't you wear contacts to bring your refractive mark to were you want? If so I would personally choice this option over explant, but I wore contacts for decades and they never bothered me. And as Ron said you can do Lasiks.

If you decide on explant I would suggest seeing a Top Doctor who has done many of them.
