External Hemorrhoid heal time?!

Hope some of you read and follow this and reply too.  I had the runs on January 20th and cleaned too hard with rough toilet paper. Developed two thrombosed external hems.  Weird thing was I didn’t have excruciating pain. Uncomfortable? Yes. I went for a run and the friction caused one of them to bleed. That one healed and was gone within 3 weeks. The other I think was there a short time later and two months plus later it is STILL there. It has reduced in size but still there. I saw a colon and rectal surgeon on 2/12 who said generally 4 to 6 weeks for it to get absorbed by the body. We are past that.  I made another apt for 4/12.  This is ruining my life.  I am fine when lounging at home in sweats or standing or walking. But sitting at work is not fun.  BMs don’t hurt but I am hyper aware of when I go and  making sure it is clean. Not to mention doing all of this at work.  I sitz bath, eat fiber, drink water, etc.  I have taken weekly pics from 2/4 to the present and it is reducing but it is still there but uncomfortable.  I have read this could be 3 months. Only fix is surgery I think but I have also read that is for very extreme cases yet how long do I go before that?  My next doctor apt will be around the three month mark so we shall see.  I am 48 years old, active, good shape.  Anyone with any insight or similar story/advice?

Yours is external Hemorrhoids case. Complications and prolonged recovery periods are generally for internal Hemorrhoids cases.

I had 1 external and 2 internal Hemorrhoids. Today is 21st day after surgery. I have little pain after BM. BUT I am much better than before. After surgery take care as per your doctor's advice.

    Hope this would help

Hi first of all sorry your experiencing this I know myself it’s awful, I’m 22 days post op for hemmoroidectomy and had 4 internal and 3 external removed and It has been the most challenging close to death experience ever and I’m not going to lie!!! For me I had to have the surgery as I was bleeding constantly and became very aneamic leading to 5 blood transfusions and even now after 3 weeks post op I am seeing my gp for an iron trAnsfusion this Saturday...If they aren’t internal and cause a real hassle I would honestly leave them and try all different methods of creams etc...Mine did take 2 years to reduce and turn to tags but I still needed surgery because of the internally ones. I know myself the discomfort of them as I had 2 weeks off work prior to surgery as all that soothes my aching throbbing pain was ice in between my bum and I couldn’t do that at work so I was so ready to be rid of the pain as I was on tramadol for months. I would really have a deep conversation with your surgeon my colorectal surgeon is fab and explained the ins and outs but it still didn’t prepare me. Now on day 22 it still hurts to pass a stool knocks me out and I’ve been off work 5 weeks I’ll be going back the 7th week I honestly thought I’d be back after 5 days LOL. Good luck I hope you can find some answers as to what’s best for you x

Thanks for the reply.  I have a follow up in 6 days with my colorectal doc.  I have ONE small external hem that is uncomfy when I sit too long. I am still very hopeful that this will eventually go away and body will continue to absorb it until it is gone.  It generally ok when I am laying down, standing or walking.  But I just never want to do anything except lay around now and that is NOT me. I used to run a few miles a couple times a week.  I need my doc to give me peace of mind one way or another. I have never had anything like this in my life.

I went back to my colorectal doc two days ago. He said no surgery is needed as my external hem is small and can really see it now unless you really spread cheeks apart.  I asked why it still hurts or us uncomfy when I sit for a while. He said because it is still there to a degree and it should continue to resolve with time and good bowel habits. He said I can go back in 6-8 weeks if it still bothers me and he may do an MRI to if there is anything else. He ruled out internal hems.  He spent some time with me to say there is a HUGE mental aspect to these which is def what is going on with me. I was relieved a bit after seeing him but I won’t be totally over this until I can live my life without thinking about sitting down. Weekends are usually good...I did yard work, golfed, laid around and all was ok.  I guarantee that tomorrow I will go back to work and when I sit it still won’t be normal and that is extremely frustrating

dear jimmy, how r u doing so far? glad to hear from ur latest reply that u r doing better. smile

u mentioned that ur doctor said that there is a huge mental aspect to it, can u elaborate what ur dr said pls?

Basically he said there is obviously physical issue to these. But also a mental part of it. He could see I am consumed by these daily from wake up til I go to bed. He was telling me to try to live my life and do things to take my mind off it.  I am trying.  I still have a very small external hem.  But today I will go golfing.  I am still hopeful it’ll eventually go away. I am going to call the colo rectal doc again as it will be 5 months with this in a few more weeks. Not as bad as month one or two or three but it’s still not gone.  My wife and kids and parents know I have this so I can joke around or talk to them if needed.  I can’t believe I am still dealing with it.  Hopefully you are ok!

    Hi jimmy_13217.

I know this is quite sometime now. How is your remaining external hemp now? Do you still find it very discomfort?

Can you describe the discomfort? Is it tolerable?

For how long you can sit and tolerate the discomfort?

    Thanks.

it finally went away after like 10 months i think it was! i could sit or lay down on soft surfaces. but harder surfaces were more difficult to deal with. Keep the faith and continue to follow the plan until it goes away!

it hurt more at the beginning. After a month or two it was an annoyance that I KNEW was there. Several months in I thought it would never go away. Thank goodness it finally did. Keep the faith!
