Extra heartbeat

Had virus early January with really bad chest pains went to A&E had 2 ECG's which were good, it then turned into chest infection and heart still felt weird, had ECG at GP's who said it was a bit irregular but would be due to chest infection, as I could still feel it a couple of days later panicking went back and was given another one and told that I have the occasional extra heartbeat, but nothing to worry about, it did not show up in January when I went to A&E when these pains first started. Any one else heard of this, I still have the occasional pain in my chest which moves from side to side, but have GERD so think this is what is causing it. Just mistified about the extra heart beat thing.

Extra, irregular, ectopic type beats only show if actually happening in the short time the ECG takes. I often used to hear irregular bleeps when taking my BP with my old monitor, The new one does not bleep but gives a symbol for irregular heart beat. Last month I had a chest infection and about a third of my readings flagged it up compared to 10% in Januay.

All the coughing I was doing also worsened my acid reflux. I get all sorts of pain with GERD some of which mimic cardiac type pain that I have learned to ignore for the past thirty years,

I had this quite a few years ago. It was creepy to me as it felt like something was wrong. I saw a cardiologist (as i had a mild leaking Aorta at the time) and mentioned it and they said it was usually nothing. Can be a symptom of too much coffee or if you smoke but i did neither (tea for me, thanks). It eventually went away by itself.

I agree though, you have to watch your health closely yourself. Doctors are way too busy these days and you need to monitor yourself without getting paranoid. So if you smoke, try to stop and if you coffee, think about how many cups a day.
