Extreme and progressive weakness.

I have been getting weaker and weaker over the last 8 years, gone from working a hard physical job (cook) 40 hours a week to being totally disabled and spending most of my time in bed.
Three years ago I was diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis, which has exrtreme weakness as its primary symptom. However tests a few months ago do not show that I have the "inclusion bodies" in my cells that are typical of my disease. Yesterday the neurologist said that he thinks I have CFS instead. I am dubious. Nothing I have read about CFS indicates that weakness is a part of that disease. I suffer from fatigue but I am pretty sure that it is the result of trying to use muscles that are dying.
So here are the questions: Can people with CFS get up off the floor? If you were lying on the floor, could you stand up easily? Could you get up with difficulty? Could you pull yourself up if you had something to hold onto? Or would you simply have to lie on the floor till someone else picked you up?

I have just found this site as I was looking for an answer as to what I may have.
My legs have been aching, very stiff and sore since October last year which is around 5 months.
I woke up one morning with it and as I had been out dancing the night before just put it down to over exercising the muscles but the pain has never gone away.
I too find it hard to sit on the gound and get myself up unless I have something or someone to pull me up and even that hurts. Trying to sit I get so far than have to drop into positon.
The usual blood test and testing for thrombosis have come back negative. My Dr says I don't have firbro or polymyalgeria as the pain is only in my legs and I dont have any of the other systoms. Several visits to the Physio and Chiro have not given me any relief. I am at wits end as I don't even want to go out anymore because of how I feel.
I am 63 and have always been very healthy so for this to happen has really thrown me. I now envy people when I see them out walking/jogging as I cannot do this now.
Feeling sad for all the people on here in constant pain.

It all started with my having a real difficulty getting up off the floor. That was the first symptom. Then I noticed standing up from a seated position on the couch was impossible without the use of my hands to push me up. I could no longer just step up onto a chair to reach something up high. Then...I discovered that walking up a single flight of stairs was almost impossible. Now I seem to fall alot. Bonking the old coconut in the process. 2 years ago , while walking me dogs around the field behind my house, I wiped out and couldn't get up....flailed around for a while then someone noticed me and came to my rescue.(Thank God) It was the hypothermia season. The falling part is so embarrassing. I have fallen everywhere. I went to my doc and he told me that I need to walk more to strengthen my muscles. I am just shocked with the degree of atrophy in my thigh muscles. I really don't think it's because I am too inactive. I have lost 20 lbs. without dieting. I feel like I'm going down the tube and I don't feel like there is any point in seeking any more medical help. My doc is of no help whatsoever. I can really relate to your problems getting up off the floor. I guess because the whole thing makes no sense... It's not like I'm 95 years old!

I, too, am dealing with weakness. Part of it, I think, is because I am not able to be very active any more, and my body has just lost strength. Yes, I can pull myself up if I hold onto something, but sometimes it is difficult. Sometimes I can get up without holding on to something, but not often. I now wear one of those devicec around my neck when I'm alone so that I can get help by pushing a button. I've had this weakness some of the time for the past twenty years. I think it is partly CFS.

Hi Sunwyn,
I came your info the other day, I wonder if you still view it? Well I'm sorry to hear about all your struggles. I hope as I write this your feeling a little better. I too have experienced similar weakness in legs, and when sitting on the floor, I too would have to put my hand on a chair or dresser to pull myself up. It was not a fun feeling, I'm only 39 yrs. I too was asking myself, what's going on? I have had to much of life hit at once in the last few years, and this all happening while caring for a baby. I recently was told by my Dr that I'm in menapause too, I'm not even 40 yrs! I also think I have symptoms of CFS. Well after prayer for wisdom and lots of Google research I found info about CoQ10. It's a energy nutrient our body natural makes and can also be found in food. Our hearts natural utilize lots of it to function, and if our bodies are deficient in it, what little we have first goes to our heart so it can function, which might leave none for the rest of the body, causing what I believe is overall weakness. After two months of taking this nutrient in vitamin form, I'm feeling like my regular self again! I have energy for my day, when I get outta bed in morning I walk straight (rather then crumpled over feeling like I might drop to the floor), I want to travel again when prior I struggled just to get through a basic day, and I can stand up easier and faster from a floor position! So my conclusion from this is life, pregnancies, menapause so depleted my body that CFS symptoms arose from it along w/ being CoQ10 deficient. Studies have been doquemented that CFS ( chronic fatigued syndrom) suffers are deficient in this CoQ10 nutrient along w/ Vitamin C (which ours bodies use to make more of this CoQ10). So do some research on it, and try it. I truly believe that was the problem, and now I getting my life back!

Hi Sunwyn,
This is Anna again, I just sent post and I wanted to clarify, that after two months of taking CoQ10, I said I felt like my regular self again - well just to clarify I meant I am " beginning" to feel like my regular self. I definitely feel stronger now after having taken Coq10, and feel that I am definitely on my way to feeling like my "regular" self again! I have seen a big change in my energy, endurance, and strength than before, that being said I believe the journey is still ahead for me, and there are days I feel a bit of a relasp after handling stressful life issues or every 3 wks (it seems) into my menapausal life I do experience "weaker" days BUT nothing comparable to what is was. This nutrient gave my body back the spark it needed to run better, and I am definitely feeling better. Again, I hope you look into. I truly believe it will help all of you that have written describing CFS symptoms and leg weakness when trying to stand up from a floor position.

IMy legs are getting weaker and weaker over the last 9 months so much that it's getting hard to walk. I became overweight fairly quick about 9 months ago and then after a auto wreck 1 yr ago I suddenly gained another 30 lbs. in addition to what i already had. Now I am 100 lbs. overweight. My doctor thinks it is related to my weight , the fact that walking is getting harder, but i think that my legs got weaker and then I started walking less . It seems like I was up doing many things one yr ago and now I can't walk much, Am I crazy or do I not understand something ? Could my weight rob me of my leg muscles? Funny, My leg muscles are strong when i tighten them but when I walk they have a strange kind of weakness. My muscles have sort of a tickly feeling in them. I tried to walk short distances for one week.. legs didn't seem to get any stronger. got sick for a few days. didn't walk for one week. now legs are even weaker than before. am i missing something glaring me in the face or could there be some disease going on? I'm scared. I wonder if I should seek another doctor or a specialist.

My legs have been getting weaker and weaker over the last year. It is true that from January 2017 until March 2017 I gained a lot of weight-- about 60 lbs. Then i was in a auto wreck in March 0f 2017 and almost immediately after the wreck I gained 30 lbs. I ate too much in the first part of 2017 but curbed my eating after that and started loosing , gaining , loosing, gaining, weight over the next months. I continued to be active but did notice a very slight decrease in my activity. then it seems like all of the sudden my legs started getting weaker and weaker. I talked to my doctor about it and he said to start walking until I can walk for 45 minutes at a time. So I've been trying to do that but my legs don't seem to be holding me up any better. I have a tickly feeling in my muscles. Does anybody have that feeling in your legs? I don't know if I'm loosing my mind or what. I just don't believe that my legs should be getting so weak . It's not like I suddenly became lazy and quit doing things. I have always been very active and busy so I really am confused. Maybe I'm not being realistic. I am getting older but I see people my weight moving around quite easily. I stll go places and do things as I always have except now I'm afraid to go alone. I am lost.. Should I see a specialist. And if I should then what kind? I got sick with pneumonia in Feb. of 2017. I was in the hospital for 6 days. I used to smoke but have stopped for about 8 months now. I have what my doctor calls slight COPD. Any ideas? I would love to get some of your thoughts. Thank you
