Extreme bloating due to ovarian cysts

Hello! I am 25 years old for the last year i have been suffering with flare ups of ovarian cysts. This month in particular my stomach has been incredibly bloated and very uncomfortable.. I'm not going to lie i look like I'm pregnant at times when my stomach is very swollen i look 6 months pregnant. When I went to the GP yesterday he said the bloating was more than likely IBS related (which iv never been doagnosed with) and gave me laxido, today however i spoke to a different GP and she sent me for an ultrasound. It appears that I have lots of cysts in my ovaries 1-2cm and they are causing both ovaries to become enlarged and swell. The right ovary is significantly larger in size then the left ovary. I'm waiting to see where i go from here, all I know is that the swelling and bloating of my stomach is making me very uncomfortable and the pain from my ovaries is no fun either! Please share if you have similiar stories smile

Hi sweetie, sorry to hear you are struggling with this too it’s horrendous isn’t it. I’m actually new to having ovarian cysts but yes up there with you in the pain bloody hell feel like I’ve no life at the moment.

I went to see my GP over a month ago complaining of lower right abdomen pain and told her I was peeing a lot so she started me on antibiotics took them pain was getting worse so I went back saw a different GP they said the pain was worse due to it now being a kidney infection put in more antibiotics Sun was getting unbearable so went back three days into my antibiotics was told I needed to finish the course so I did that like a good patient that I am 🙄 had no choice but to go back yet again on day 5/7 of my antibiotics I thought stuff this if I get given more I will scream I was literally sat in the GP waiting room (it was full may I add) crying my eyes out in so much pain got called in and praise the Lord above it was my usual GP no messing she phoned the hospital and I was admitted (she thought I had an ovarian cyst that had burst - I was in hospital two weeks first scan showed cyst on my right ovary 5cm (filled with blood) I was set to go to theatre and then they cancelled me last minute scanned me again cyst reduced to 4cm apparently guidelines for theatre are 5cm+ phewww escapes that narrowly I thought but truthfully I’m still in horrendous pain and have to wait until end of July for them to operate anyway as she said it is one that will come back or grow much bigger and potentially contort so I’m now in a waiting game freaked out thinking it could contort or burst at any point especially with the pain tramadol isn’t even taking pain away and my GP (another crap one) said I just need to wait for op but if I get clammy or get very sick pass out go to a&e (certainly hope somebody is with me if I pass out then) my tummy is also very swollen but I am a little overweight so nobody thinks it’s swollen (I’m not mahusive just not a stick insect I’m in size 14 but having to wear 16/18 as I’m so swollen) so I totally understand where you are coming from. I’m not eating not eaten in three weeks my tummy just feels so swollen and full I’m drinking plenty though.

Oh forgot the reason for me peeing so much is because the cyst is pressing on my bladder!! Not an infection.

Please please keep on your GP’s back as nobody should have to suffer like this. You will initially get fobbed off as some cysts are normal and can be part of your monthly cycle but the sonographer can distinguish between them GP’s don’t have x-rayvision so keep onto them huni xx hope you get sorted soon

Thankyou for your reply smile so i went back to the drs yday and they said i have polystitic ovaries, but are hesitant to refer to gynaecology as they can't really do much, plus although my ovaries are sore it could be secondary to something else... uhh. So I made the suggestion to do some bloods.. Dr was astonished no blood work had been done. So I have had blood tests done today and should get results back in 7 days. Meanwhile I continue to look like if eaten a beach ball. Like yourself i am a healthy size, usually i fit a size 10 but i am finding i need to wear size 12/14 Just for the bloat. It feels like a waiting game in all honesty, the dr said by the time referrals have been made and waiting list times the cysts could rupture or get even bigger and contort, or they could improve. Literally in the last 3 days my diagnoses has gone from IBS too ovarian cysts to polystitic ovaries you need to be referred asap to gynae too it could be secondary to something else dont worry... it's been a strange 72 hours! Hope your situation gets better too hun xx
