Extreme left flank pain, nothing showing on scans, please help?

I'll try to keep this as brief as I can.

I'm a 24 year old femaleand I've been expieriencing flank pain, in the region I think is my kidney.

I have had this for 10 months, but an x ray, ultrascan, IVU and numerous blood and urine tests hae all come back negative, other than some blood in my urine.

I have been prescribed co-codamol, but it does not often help.

Two days ago I went to a and e as the pain was so severe; I have been through all the same tests and had all the same results. I've been prescribed a small amount of tramadol and anti-sickness tabs. I am really suffering and unable to work. I saw my GP today, she would not give me any further analgesia and is sending me for another blood test and a chest x ray; the only referral she is considering is to chronic pain management... Not seeming bothered in the cause.

No medical professional cares enough to anything other than standard tests, its really getting me down, I don't know where to go or what to do, but I am in severe, constant pain.

Can anyone advise on where I can go from here?

    Hi there,

I am a 25 year old female with history of urine and kidney infections which in the past were treated by antibiotics. However, for the last 3 years I have been in pain around my kidney area which has been treated by antibiotics again but the pain keeps coming back. I too have had countless Ultrasounds/Xrays/blood tests and all coming back negative... the urine samples when checked shows an infection but when analysed doesn't show any infection???

I have had all the painkillers I can and they work for a while but too strong ones mean I cant drive or work and that not much of an option for me.

I have been referred to a Chronic Pain Clinic and I have had 5 trigger point injections which made me twice as worse as before with pain. I am seriously fed up with the pain as well.

I hope you manage to get some help soon because I feel your pain sad

I hope this has been resoled by now for you. If not, please go immediately to your GYN and be tested for STD's. Do not question where or how you may have gotten one, as the immediate issue is to be tested. Gonorrhea in particular, as well as other STD's is not always detected in females until after it goes out through the fallopian tubes into the abdomen where scar tissue sets up from the infection and causes pain. The scar tissue will not show in CT scan unless it is causing a bowel obstruction, though it is very real and very painful for the sufferer. I am a nurse and know this to be true. Always remember that the medical community is functioning from a VERY NARROW window of information as most doctors are trained in such a specific area, they do not know how to problem solve about things like this. Once infection gets into the abdominal cavity, it can be hard to determine that is what has happened and to get appropriate treatment. I am wishing you a quick resolution of this problem and speedy healing.

I want to add to my previous comment, that pain in the pelvic area is referred to the upper abdomen and even to the shoulders! For instance, an ovary or fallopian tube problem can cause pain in the shoulder or upper quadrants of the abdomen. I know that seems weird, but it is true. So just because the pain is in the area of the kidney, that does not mean it is coming from a problem with the kidney. I am wishing you all the very best.

Hi, really sorry to hear about your pain and symptoms. It does seem though that my wifs symtoms and pain mirror yours and we too have been struggleing to get treatment that works effectivly. Yes weve been thru all the things youve described thru the hospital system here.

Just wondering if youve had anything since your post thats worked? We read that

Endeometritus might be the problem with scar tisue on the outside of the uretha tube wall

Has this been looked at? We would be very interested in knowing

    Sorry about my spelling
