Extreme pain

I can't believe the extreme pain I feel under my left breast. I would have to say this is worse than child birth. I had an x-ray that was clear and the doctor says my lungs sound good. It almost makes me feel like they don't believe me, but I know what I feel and I don't wish this on my worse enemy. I'm going on my 3rd week. At times it gets a tad better, but is reinjured all over again once I start coughing. I find holding a pillow to my chest helpful. I'm taking Tylenol, Advil and a cough suppresant.

I know how you feel, I have had this for about 2 1/2 weeks, just had a chest x ray to see if there is any infection but have to wait a week for the results. I have the same feeling of 'oh its not as bad now' then I cough ofeven worse sneeze and its back to square one. My pain is on both sides but again the sharpest pain is under my left breast. The last doctor I saw was really helpful , I was signed off work (which non of the other doctors had suggested or even told me to rest!) so now I feel like what I am feeling has been acknowledged. Maybe if you go to see a more sympathetic doctor you may get more help.

I think the trouble with it is there isn't much the can do to help other than give you painkillers (which havent worked so far)

I hope you get better soon

I was prescribed amoxycillin for mine....although the doc did say it could be bacterial or viral in origin.

There does not seem to be much info one doctor told be that it would be weakness for couple of years and another says no reason why it would reoccur. I dont smoke and have been eating healthy. There just isn't any help or advice sad

I am sitting here now with my 2nd bout of excruciating pain from pleurisy. I was diagnosed with it at the ER a couple of weeks ago and was given an anti -inflammatory and pain killers. I took the antiinflammatory for the prescribed period but really it didn't seem to do much good.

The pain affects me at night mostly and has never fully gone away. Mostly my pain is localized in my left shoulder and upper back it is very seveere and almost feels like a muscle spasm. Strangely breathing or coughing dose not hurt me, but movement does.

It hurts me so bad that I feel numb on that side. I hate taking pain killers, so I just suffer with the pain, unable to move or rest. I am so surprised that there is nothing that can be done. This affliction has been around for ages and yet we are still suffering in 2009. My current state of pain has lasted for 18 hour and counting. Not much helps to relieve the pain unfortunately except the painkillers.
