extreme sweating every night

Posted , 17 users are following.

I am 2 weeks post  this morning.  Every night, after about 2 hours sleep, I wake up drenched.  It's as if I'm laying in a pool of water.  My cotton gown is soaked, my sheets, my pillow, everything.  I get up to use the bathroom, change my gown and lie back down.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I don't know what coud be causing it.  It only happens once but it happens every night.  My room is not overly warm.  In fact, it is more on the cool side.  I am only taking a couple of percocet and xarelto during the day.  Could this be an effect of either of those medicines?

      Good morning, Renee,

I haven't, but thenn you are rather a log way away!

It is all beginning to sound like a combination of the medications, the shock of the operation, etc.  Also, minor allergic reactions to a cocktail of medications that people seem to be taking, and the body reacting by tipping them out.  Best to drink as much water as possiblen abd ask if you should be taking salt tablets.

      Hope this helps

We spoke about that toxic smell once before - it is not normally mentioned on here, but I really noticed it. Looking back I now definitely think we were eliminating the chemicals and medication out of our bodies, as it couldn't be washed away. I have never had that before with any of the other nine or so operations I have has. Goodness only knows what they use. Really horrible but completely gone now.... Thank heavens.

The knee comment made my tummy flip over - I remember my knee hurting more than my hip post op, now I know why!!! smile

As Susie says, I can't smell anything from here either.twisted

Could it be that our sense of smell changes?

cheesygrincheesygrincheesygrin  oooo the benefit of living alone !!!!

wet t-shirt like nighty not so sexy anymore ....

If I'd drink more water, I'd better stay in the bathroom -

I, for one, am happy now that it is all getting behind me ... bathroom 1-2 times a night and night sweats 3-4 times a week but no waking up drenched anymore ....  just clammy ... put on a dry nightshirt and back to sleep ....

Oh, I had that toxic smell for awhile, too. Thought my whole body chemistry had changed permanently, but it went away at about 8 weeks, thank goodness.

Rose, that would be good if you ask your surgeon, it would help to clear up one more mystery.

I have been doing some reearch on this.  I can see that yu have lareeady had 40 replies, so will ot go into the whys and wherefores!

On a well known online site, you can purchase fitted mattress and pillow protectors that are water proof, and have a Terry cloth finish.  I have bought a set, twopllow cases and a mattress protector.  They are a little crackly at first, I think, but you can put a conventional mattress protector on top of the wter proof mattress protector.  The objective being that it will protect the fluid that yiu are losing and the odours from the medications that are accompanying it, not to permeate the mattress, so that you end up having to replace the mattress!

I also did a search under "terry ckoth nightwear and beachwear" hoping to find kaftan type garments that you would slip on over a bikini.  No such thing, but a variety of nightwear, and a couple of pairs of pajamas that were quite expensive.  There are also some terry turbans, so that, at least your hair is out of the way, even if the turban has to be readjusted during the night.

The protectors are very reasonably priced, the quality is reasonable, the turbans are in hideous colours, but they do have white and black.  They are handy for "bad hair days" and make up, once recovery is on track and the nasty seating at night has subsided.

Thanks for the info.  Fortunately, I purchased an extremely high quality mattress cover with my new mattresses last year.  So, my mattress is safe.  smile  Funny thing that after I mentioned this in the forum, it hasn't happened again.... yet.  I washed my mattress cover and put clean linens on the bed this morning.  I'm hoping the worst is over.

Did anyone who had night sweats use an ice machine for their knee after the surgery? I think this is what is causing it. They took the staples out of my knee a week ago and i have had night sweats every night since? it drives me crazy. could it be the blood thinners? i think may be the ice machine

Hi I have the same I wake up drenched. It's been going on now for 15 months . I have 2 hip replacements . however the surgeon broke my femur during the second one . have had no end of trouble for the last 15/16 months. Does anyone know what causes your legs to sweat so much. I thought maybe it was the material the rods were made of or the type of cement they use. They also used some sort of alloy rod they tied around my femur. but they removed the rod 3 months back and my legs still sweat.
