Extremely irregular periods, and flow! Help!

I'm a 16 year old female, I got my period for the first time when I was 11. My period is still extremely irregular. I will get my period for about 13 days then I wont get it again for 2-3 months, then i'll have it for 2-3 weeks. So however many months I skip thats how many weeks i'll have it. I skipped about 3 months, and I currently have my period. The first 6 days I barely had any blood, a super light flow! But on the 7th and 8th day it has been crazy, and the cycles not over yet! I've been passing quite a few larger blood clots too which isn't normal for me. My flow is normally lighter. I don't know if I should be concerned or not. And my last period was an extremely light flow. Help!

It sounds like you could have polycystic ovarian syndrome. You need to get your hormones tested. Are you diabetic?

I've never been diagnosed as diabetic, but a lot of my family is. Could diabetes be a cause of my issues?

You may not have diabetes, but if it runs in your family you could have the gene which makes polycystic ovarian syndrome all the more likely. I would recommend you get tested for both.
