Eye discomforts after cataract surgery

Hi, I had my right eye operated for cataract 80 days ago and am still experiencing great discomforts:
1) black rim at the far end corner of eye, research said it is due to Negative Dysfotopsia, talked to the doctor who operated me, he says there is nothing to be done, my brain will eventually adjust to it.
2) I feel as if there is a dense drop of fluid of something inside my eye, I try to tissue it out, but my eye is dry. I put eye drop into my eye hoping it may be due to dry eye, but it is not.
3) my upper eyelid, to my amazement, has gone up after the surgery, I feel a form of heaviness, is it swollen for some reason caused by the operation? Asked my doctor, he said there is no swelliness, no inflammation.
This all is very annoying and there has been no sign of any gradual improvement. Does anyone have similar experience after cataract surgery?

I had cataract op over 10 days back. I got hit with exactly the same issue. A cresent on the edge of the eye; in my case it was pretty large. I challenged the surgeon on this issue and he said it will get adapted - i dont believe a word they say.
Firstly let us start with the lense. In the disclaimer you sign, there is not a single mention of this side effect. Cause is due to mostly with premium lenses which have a high index. In general the diameter is 6mm. In some people 6mm is too small - both yours and mine need to be 7mm and this issue will not exist. If I get the second eye done, I am not going to sign up if the lense diameter is 6mm unless they are willing to signup to pay compensation.
To the issue of the eye being heavy; yes, it will take a while to get back to normal. Are you still taking any medication? I found it is a result of the steriod drop which takes approx 3 months to become normal once drops are stopped; I had used same drops 10 years ago when i had vitrectomy in this eye.
My center vision is pretty clear now but because i still have older prescription i must wait 8 weeks before getting new prescription. I went from 20/40 now to 20/25.

Hello Saj, thank you so much for your prompt response. So it is the eye drops that gave me an "eyelid lift", LOL, I checked some photos of my eye right after the operation and look at my eye now and do see the tiniest different, it is a tiny tiny bit smaller than right after the operation, the feeling of uneasieness still persists, I hope the effect of the drops will wear out definitely and eventually. I asked my surgeon why my eyelid is wideer, he said "no such thing", what can one says to that? They are so conerservative, ignoring the obvious.
As regard the size of the IOL, he did mention that a 7mm IOL would be too big for my eye and that my brain will eventually ignore the dark rim.
Besides the darck rim, the eyelid, I also feel fluid inside/behind my eye that I cannot get rid off, I told the surgeon about it,too, he says there is no sign of injury or inflammation.
I just wish all surgeons will layout all the possible side effects, but they have me sign a disclamier containing all possible diseases with not one mention of any of the discomforts I have.
I just hope that time will heal, take away these irritations I feel. All and all, I would still opt my eye for the cataract operation seeing the vision I have gained, but I am extremely reluctant to subject my other eye, yet to be operated, to similar irritations, not both eyes.

I had my left eye done a year and a half ago and went back several times about the black shadow at the left side of my eye. It's curved like the eye/lens.I had soreness and the Consultant who did it said the shadow would go and so would the soreness. No one said anything about Negative Dysphotopsia, which I found out about. To be fair to them it only happens with about 1 1/2 % of people so the statistics are in your favour, you have a 98 1/2 % chance of it going. Just try to ignore it and remember it is likely. Like you I would have liked to be told it would go and it was a year before I heard the 1 1/2 % figure. By then I was an expert myself! I have read a great deal about it!
I had soreness as a result of a slightly prominent small scar. I was told to use drops to keep the eye moist and that does help. There are some drops from opticians, in the UK, that have a gel in and they last longer, but cost.
I have another to do now and will be having a different size lens in, so hope it does not happen again.
Cannot help with the swelling but time is a great healer.
Good luck!

I had cataract surgery in February of 2017. I am experiencing a feeling of fullness or heaviness in both eyes. My vision is good. This sensation occurs when I am in the light, especially fluorescent lights. It gets worse as the day goes on to the point I just go to bed and close my eyes. This has drastically changed my life. I have a difficult concentrating when this sensation is at its worst. Last summer I ordered a pair of the FL41 glasses that are for indoor use (until that time I had been wearing sunglasses inside) and are supposed to help with light sensitivity. They helped tremendously for about 3 months and then stopped working. I have been to some of the best doctors in my state. I started with a cornea doctor who said I had dry eyes, blepharitis, and inflamed meibomian glands. Over a period of about 8 visits he tried drops, ointments, oral antibiotics and gave me an at home regiment to do daily. Nothing helped this sensation of fullness in the presence of light, no pain just sort of like I am underwater. That sensation appear worse in the lower part of my eyes towards the end of the day. Its almost like light causes fluid to come into the eye and then settles in the bottom part of the eye as the day goes on. I don't mean the fluid is on the outside of the eyeball. It feels like it is trapped inside the eyeball. He sent me to a dry eye dr. and no help there, she sent me to a neuro-opthamologist and he said "sometimes this happens." I started back with the cornea doctor and when I took the FL 41 glasses and showed him how it immediately stopped the sensation when I put them on, he said this isn't caused by dry eyes. He admitted that he didn't know anything else to try. I have started over with a new cornea doctor who knows the reputation of all the doctors I have seen and says they are the best but he is more than willing to give it a try. My hope is that I will find someone who has seen something like this in the past and might be able to help me. I had the meibomian glands manually expressed in one eye to see if that made a difference but it didn't. The material coming out of the glands is the consistency of toothpaste so I didn't have much confidence that I was going to be able to remove the blockage with at home hot compresses and massage. I'm wondering if there is any way the lenses they put in are somehow causing the problem. All doctors say no, it's not the lens. I'm not sure how they can make that statement if they don't know what is causing the problem!
