Eye issues going on a couple of weeks and feeling discouraged

Hi to all,

I have been having an eye issue for awhile now that i am feeling discouraged over. it first started out as it hurting to blink and some throbbing pain. i had a spot near my tear duct that was puffy looking so I figured it was a stye and applied a hot compress for awhile. The pain stayed about the same for awhile, but then it started to increase in severity. I have been to my regular eye doctor three times now and I got told my eyes themselves are fine and look healthy. There was some mild inflammation underneath my eyelid though so the doctor said this might be from allergies as my tear ducts have also been quite itchy. So, he suggested some allergy eye drops which have helped.

The pain has stayed though so I decided to go get a second opinion from another eye dr in my city. Well, good news is that my eyes are healthy. The moment she saw me though, she said my eyelid looks puffy. Well, when she was doing the exam, she saw a blocked duct along my lashes and a white head. So, it seems to be a stye. I have been given a hot compress eye mask to use and I have to get a topical cream that is supposed to help.

I have been noticing a semi new symptom though. I told her about it and she said it is possible with a stye. I have had some light sensitivity. It is mild, but annoying. It makes me paranoidas its in both of my eyes. I am not sure if it could be due to eye strain, but I cant help, but think of the worst. I sometimes will wake up with wetness under my right eye too.

I am just wondering then if any of this sounds normal with a stye and if anyone has had light sensitivity with a stye or eye strain.

Your blocked and infected meibomian gland in your eyelid may be the start of dry eye. The sensitivity to light is often a symptom. usually starts with what some doctors think is a stye . Try using a lubricating drop in your eye. Called "artificial tears" or Hypromellose. Always wear sunglasses, preferably polarised which will help the sensitivity. PS look for "polarised" but not "polaroid" which is just the make.

Our eye sight is precious. We don't realize how much so until something goes wrong. So, it's no wonder you're are feeling discouraged and frightened. I developed a sty a couple years ago and my eyelid became swollen, red, and painful. And it took a long time for it to finally clear up ( I received medication and medical care). Because you are so in tune to your eye, it's likely the feeling of light sensitivity is due to eye strain. As long as you have been seen by your eye doctor, and have a follow-up appointment, I'm sure it will clear up in time. If you have any more doubts or concerns go ahead and see your eye doctor again (or at least give them a call). Keep us posted!

Stye is annoying but will not affect your vision. It usually goes away in 1-2 weeks. I have suffered from recurrent chalazion last 3 years. Doing my best to keep my eye lids and lashes clean by using lid wipes and spray every day, but still get chalazion every few months. Eye doctor suggested steroid injection which I did not agree. Does anyone suffer from recurrent chalazion ? I welcome any suggestions and comments. This problem is on-going and bothersome. I was diagnosed with MGD.
