Eye Local anaesthetic injection for Cataracts surgery

Hi guys,
I have a quick question, I have cataract surgery on Monday, I will be needing an injection to help numb my eye for the procedure due to my age and my eyes being more sensitive (age 27). I am actually more worried for the injection that the procedure at the point! I have been told I will be given a a pill to help with anxiety although not sure what and how effective it is.
Has anyone else had to have this kind of injection and was it painful?

I did not feel it at all. They numbed my eye first with some liquid or gel before any injection and I think that is standard. No pain at all for the entire procedure. The pill relaxed me for sure. The whole thing was completed very quickly. I'm a grip the chair type for even a dental cleaning and cataract surgery was a breeze compared to that.

No worries you will not feel anything with the injection. A few months back I had a detached retina. They had to inject an air bubble into the gel in the center of my eye. They put numbing eye drops in prior to the injection and I didn't even know when the doctor injected the bubble. No pain whatsoever.

My first cataract surgery was done in a hospital. They gave me some kind of sedative via IV in my hand. I was vaguely aware of what was going on, but just barely. I got many rounds of eye drops before the procedure and presume they had a local numbing effect. I did not feel any discomfort during the procedure. My second eye was done in a clinic. They gave me an Ativan to help relax before the procedure and the numbing drops as well again. I was quite aware of what was going on during this procedure but did not feel any discomfort. Both ways worked for me, but if I had a choice I would go for the IV method.

Are you in USA? When I had my cataract surgery I was given Versed by IV and some Fentanyl. That;s how it's usually done in my area

I am so sorry you have to deal with cataracts at such a young age. Wish you well. I was very nervous for mine - but honestly felt a bit of pressure - no pain. As others said a trip to the dentist is worse.

I'm in Brazil and, in the clinic where I operated on both eyes, there's an anesthesiologist on the team who does intravenous sedation and you just "turn off" for a few minutes. I just remember the doctor saying hello to me and then saying "you can get up, everything went well!". But from the various reports I've read, it's a totally painless surgery.
