Hi

I suffer with Blepharitis and have tried all sorts in the past, I have just finished a course of doxyciline but I still got flare ups, I am now thinking I may also have exzema/dermatitis.......it is absolutely awful on my top lids red and sore with raised weals and also under my left eye the same...I am trying to keep on top of it an I am having some success but my eyes are very very dry and scaly.

Can anyone recommend a good safe moisuriser expecially for the eyes....I cannot use coconut oil anymore as it sets my eyes off being red itchy and sore...it is getting to the point I darent use anything ......:-(

Your situation sounds similar to mine. I've learned to simplify my cleansing route and adjust it each day by how my eyes are feeling.

To calm down the flare up your describing and address the excema I would start by just using warm water on a soaked paper towel to wash the eye lids, lash lines, eye brows, and down along the side of your nose and face.

One paper towel for each eye area.

Then use a gel bead microwaveable eye mask. It hold the heat very well and you can gently move your finger around the outside of the mask which I find helps to message the lids and gets the natural oil flowing. It is clogged oil glands the cause the raised bumps and welts you described. After 10 minutes you remove the heat mask and then message your eyes. I watched How to Do Warm Compress and Lid Massages. It's 1:44 that you will be so glad you watched. I use cotton squares cut into quarters that I wet instead of just my finger.

While the lid and eye area is still a bit wet I apply a tiny bit of Aveeno Ecezma cream on the lids and under the eyes (one finger for each eye so there is no cross contamination), staying away from the lash lines. This took care of red, itching, and dry scaly skin around my eyes.

Lastly, I apply a lid wash to my lash lines only using a Qtip. One for each eye. My optomologist has me using Avenova which is a prescription liquid spay on wash. I do not put anything on the lids or around the eyes but Aveeno or you could use any Ecezma cream that works for you. Anything else irritates and causes the red burning lids...

I have read that OcuSoft HypoChlor is available over the counter and is a similar compound to Avenova, but I,have not tried it myself.

If you stick with this routine until your flare calms down then you can steam line it. I now do the heat mask and massage a few days a week or when I feel the need to. Wash with water, use lid wash, change pillow cases every other day, use non preservative Refresh eye drops during the day when needed.

Be consistent until you flare calms down and then be diligent about whatever routine works for you.

Stay positive and I hope this info will help you find a solution that works for you.

No, the HypoChlor is liquid and comes in a spray bottle.
