Eye problem/Glaucoma

Posted , 2 users are following.

I was diagnosed early dry AMD/ Glaucoma about 2 yrs back. My eye sight was quite alright when diagnosed and it still remains almost the same with slight decrease. I have been using Travatan eye drops once a day and Azopt twice a day for the last18 months. About 2-3 weeks back, I started having Headache (not exactly headache but uncomfortable heavy head/ forehead). I have tried to leave even some Vits etc thinking that those may be the root cause.

I would request other users of above eye drops to comment:

a. Could this side effect of any of above eye drops as given in their brochures start so much after these were started?

b. I have not been using Systane or VisolGel (both are eye lubricants). Could this a cause?

c. I plan to skip one dose above drops one by one to ascertain if at all any of these are creating this problem?

Thanking you

I am a glaucoma patient who was put on Travatan as well as Azopt early in my diagnosis. I did suffer adverse effect. When I first suggested at the clinic that I was feeling lethargic, and suffering a “cotton wool” / foggy head it wasn’t exactly dismissed,  but the view was this had not been heard of before. I was I guess convincing enough and I was put on eventually (after yet another failure - sorry can’t recall what that was) Lumigan. My brother some time later was also diagnosed with glaucoma, and he also had adverse effects. I therefore have no problem believing you are suffering and would suggest raising this with your clinician. There are alternatives that can be tried to find something you hopefully can find suitable.

Thanks for your detailed comments. As Glaucoma patients, we have to accept side effects of eye drops (pretty gruesome) as suggested by the Docs. All such drops have such side effects which may or may not affect various patients. I used various drops during first 6 months which were discontinued due to decrease in heart rate and/or  BP etc. Ultimately I settled down to Travatan and Azopt about over 1.5 years. It does create problems occasionally as I mentioned earlier but then gets settled some how. At least these drops do not decrease my heart rate and BP as various other drops did initially. I am happy that I am again feeling alright with these eye drops. I wish you the best of luck.
