Eye problem, neurological or mental?

I've been suffering from a myriad of problems for a few years now. They include an inability to concentrate, tiredness, aches and pains, anxiety, depression, brain fog, memory.

Now yesterday I made a stark discovery. I was aware that I was zoning out all day every day and for that reason I've recently stopped getting behind the wheel. I'm only 22 years old so this is an issue. However, this sounds strange but i listened to the radio for the first time in ages and I realised I was able to take what I was listening to in. I then started talking to family with my eyes closed, watching tv with my eyes closed etc and I foud suddenly that my brain was fine and it was my constant blankness with eyes open that was causing my issues.

Now before I had all sorts of tests relating to my health, mainly the generic blood tests for diabetes, thyroid, vitamin B etc.

What could be causing these symptoms? It's not due to social anxiety as it happens even when i'm on the phone. If i'm on the phone with my eyes open i'll just gaze into space and struggle to engage in the conversation. Today I called a friend and closed my eyes and the level of engagement was so different!

My eyes have been tested before by an optometrist and I had good vision but they are often really sore. I also can fall asleep at almost any time if that helps.

Do I ask for an EEG if i visit the doctor, or an eye doctor, or what?!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd like to add that I have a sensation of fullness in my left ear at all times also, and that has been the case for as long as I can remember...

It sounds to me like you might, and I emphasize might, have some sort of vasculitis like susac's disease. The next thing I'd check is for a partial seizure disorder. Ask your doctor if he thinks a PET scan is appropriate.
