What kind of eye problems do you all deal with from crohn's? I know not all will have issues with there eyes but was reading its pretty common for people with crohn's to experience it in their eyes and joints as well.

Hi Sarah, I was diagnosed in 2006 and in the early days I had blepharitis which is an eyelid infection, at the time I wasn't aware it was connected to Crohn's. Once treated I have never had any recurrence. I have osteoarthritis in my hip and big toe joints but I think that is more age related wear and tear than Crohn's!

Hi Sarah.  I have had many occurrences of blepharitis and corneal ulcers.  I also experience very dry eyes, worse in the night. I have been told that my eyelids, when closed, do not close snugly over the eye.  There is a gap which means the eye gets very dry.  I wake regularly in the night with uncomfortable eyes and unable to open them. I am awaiting an appointment to see a corneal specialist. Interesting topic. I look forward to other comments.  I have a horrible feeling my vision is becoming affected but find it hard to describe what I am experiencing.

Hi Sarah, You have not mentioned how long you have been suffering with crohns.

?I have had crohns now for 53yrs. A few years ago I had a spate of problems with my vision problems trying to focus. The first time I exerienced it I was driiving my car and had to pull over to the side of the road until it passed which was not long. Because I know that you can get crohns in the eyes I mentioned it to the optician when I had my eyes tested, but they said that everything was alright with my eyes.

I did mention this when I went to my next annual check up at the gastrology department at my hostpital. I mentioned it to the registra on duty and told her that the optician had given me the all clear, She responded by saying that in order to check the eyes for crohns that had to use a special test where they checked the eyes in sections. But she never sent me for a check up. You just can't get the staff now or days. This lasted for around 12 months off and on but it was not a regular thing. Although I have not had any repeats of this for sometime now, I do occasionaly get rings of lights in my eyes from time to time, As regards the joints my knees have been giving me problems for around three years now, bu also of late I have been getting intermittent pain in several of my joints. I hope this helps and I hope that you dont feel too bad. Take care.

I've suffered from dry eyes from before my Crohns' symptoms. I also developed a detached retina, but only slightly. It was diagnosed by a high street optician. I was given a grid to use to check it patches of my vision disappeared. Few years I at another eye test the optician said it had repaired itself. Detached retina is common in Crohns. I should probably go back at some point and get it checked again. I don't think it has any symptoms.
