Eye problems with polymyalgia

Hi does anybody else have eye problems who have polymyalgia if so please let me know what your doctor is doing for you.

    May I suggest everyone taking prednisone have their

    eyes checked by an ophthalmologist on a regular

    basis.   I am now being diagnosed with glaucoma

    and high eye pressure which need to be taken care

    of pronto to avoid further problems.

      Thanks for your suggestion.  I am going to see my Eye doctor tomorrow for ongoing redness in both eyes due to PMR.  The redness comes and goes.....and maybe it is an allergy.

      It used to be recommended in the UK that patients on pred have an annual full eye test by an optician who can do the necessary retinal examination and pressure tests - this isn't the case in other countries by the way. However - although previously the eye test at the optician was covered as the patient being at risk of glaucoma, this has apparently changed (cost saving no doubt). I believe it can be requested by your GP but the cost of paying for your own in alternate years is very much worth it given what they can identify.
