Eye surgery pre-op...

Posted , 9 users are following.

hi all....some of you know I'm having eye surgery next Monday.

today I went for my pre op and was given a prescription for 3 different eye drops to be used post surgery.

when I got home I took a look and much to my surprise, one of the drops was Prednisone!!

I was slightly taken aback to say the least!

ok....now orally AS WELL as eye drops??

has anyone else had experienced this?

R u having cataract surgery ? When I had mine I only had 2 types of spray. It all went incredibly well.... I was so nervous beforehand, not knowing what to expect. They did not not give me any drugs to calm my nerves other than eye injections, as they said I looked cool as a cucumber.

Hope all goes as well for you. I would question the pred spray.

I and cataract surgery 2 weeks ago and prescribed steroid drops to be used for 4 weeks. I appear to be OK. They did know I am already on steroids. I wonder if steroid drops and I and inhalers work differently. Ie you don't get the round face etc. Good luck Linda.

it does sound like it lynda, and its understandable that you are worrying.

Here in Yorkshire we are having windy weather, has it rained yet for you with the fires it would help.

take care let us know how you get on, on Monday.

Not unusual for eye ops - the topical version works where it is applied to reduce the inflammation due to surgery. Eyes don't have a brilliant blood supply so the oral route doesn't help a lot. And the topical sort has fewer side effects, though too much for too long can have systemic effects.

There is a special protocol used for eye ops in immunocompromised patients - perhaps being on oral pred counts.
