Eyes burning

I have had cataract in both eyes 8 weeks and 4 weeks .  My eyes have both been burning and hurting last few days .. I do not have allergies so am sure this isn't what it could be ... just curious if any one has experienced this . Also how long does it  hurt to get water in the eyes after cataract surgery  . It has burned since day one when I get water in eyes and still does is this also normal ? Thanks

Dry eyes are common Debi & probably common following a cataract operation.  I certainly have dry eyes.  You can buy ocular lubricants over the counter, also known as artificial tears

    Are you in the UK?

Ask your local Pharmacist.  It is best to opt for preservative free drops

Mrsmop- thank you for response ... my doctor did give me eye drops and a eye drop gel ... but doesn't seem to help much .  My eye is red and irritated looking . I will call doctor in morning .  I have finished all my eye drops I was taking after the surgery so maybe that is why eyes are burning now .  I am in the U S.

I may be due to scar tissue from the surgery . A few months after my lense replacement surgery i had to have Yag laser to get rid of the scar tissue . This was covers under my medical insurance

You may experiencing a reaction to the steroid medication that most doctors prescribe for Cataract surgery. Suggest you Google side effects of the medications particularly the steroids that you used. I had this reaction and 4 months later I'm still feeling the affects. Good luck!

Salty0- thank you for response . I am no longer taking steroid drops .. just quit them three days ago . But maybe that's why eyes are doing this . How long were you're eyes sore after surgery? Do they burn when you get water in them ?  Didn't know if my concern was needing a doctors visit . 🤔

I had RLE surgery and now have dry eyes . I was given Hycosans plus drops from the hospital to use . They are very goods drops and are available over the counter from opticians & pharmacists . You can use them as often as needed . You can also use Hycosans eye ointment at night .

I have been into surgery over 2 months now,my eyes have been burning and at times it feels like sand/grit in my eyes,if you rub your eyes to get rid of the grit ,it will make your eye lids under your eye red caused by the rubbing. On my last visit to the surgeon,he told me to use eye drops,it was just a temporary relief, having cataract surgery have defiantly become a nuisance for me,and it dosen't appear, I am the only one by the comments on this site.

I had both eyes done a little over 2 years ago.  I've not experienced any kind of irritation, other than a mild case of dry eye.  I use Systane, which works very well.  I find I don't need drops all of the time, but on occasion.  If your eyes are red, gritty feeling, and irritated, I wouldn't waste any time getting back to your doctor.  My surgeon told me not to rub my eyes for at least 4 - 6 weeks post surgery - and even in the future, not to rub too hard "don't wail on them" has he stated.

when I had cataract on my right eye done on June 23 1017 my eye burned off and on for 6 months. I thought I was allergic to the lens. I got less and less burning sensation as time went on. until it stopped compleately by the sixth month, Dec 10 2017. I took 6 different eye drops prescribed by my doctor buy none worked until I used an over the counter one. BOSH AND LOMB SOOTHE eye drops to keep in the frig. to get cold so it feels really good

my doctor said NO WAY that I was allergic to the lens. i was checked by an allergist dr. to see if I was allergic to the lens. I WAS NOT allergic to the lens. I think some bacteria was on the lens that made me allergic to it and last as long as it did. I can see really good out of the eye so it did not hamper the surgery at all. I will be having the left eye done in November of 2018. hope this helps.
