When you say it happens immediately before bedtime, do you mean towards the end of the day or when you're getting into bed? Sounds as if it might be BPPV, which is a nuisance but not dangerous.

Mark, Did it settle once you'd stood up and kept your head still for a minute or two?

This detail is essential to deciding whether or not it's worth getting yourself investigated for BPPV. The violent spinning doesn't go on non-stop with BPPV (though the general feeling of unsteadiness does). It just hits when you move your head into certain positions, and especially when you get up in the morning and when you first lie down.

Regardless of the cause of your vertigo, it's always a good idea to rise into a sitting position from lying down, then wait till the vertigo subsides before getting out of bed.

it's still surprising me . right now i seem pretty steady. i do find looking up to the sky brings it on and i do need some steadying support after waking -cos i am wobbling like on a ship on a stormy sea.  i was told to go to E N T clinic. by my gpm .what seems so unsettling to me is that seems to not phase the professionals . my diabetes doctor didnt even call me back when inquiring about meds possibly being the culprit etc as my pharmacist had me questioning...if my co pay was due i'd get an inquiry tho. waiting in an emergency room seems more dreadful than dealing with this at home. ..staying up late making myself get good n tired to get thru the eve. nothing like being dizzy in the wee hours of the morning. keep u posted...thanks

Epley naneuver is very helpful, even after one session by an experienced physiotherapist. Just try it, it has helped me with bppv 2 years ago, and I’ m fine.

in my case a neurologist has diagnosed and done this treatment.

    Good luck to you!

I agree with Lapka. The Epley manoeuvre is very effective for BPPV. I had a nasty attack a year or so ago and was also cured by a single session with a specialist vestibular physiotherapist.

If it's not BPPV the Epley won't help, but it won't harm you. In any case, the physiotherapist will do a simple positional test which will immediately diagnose BPPV if that's what you have. If it turns out not to be BPPV, then they won't continue with the Epley.

But please don't be tempted to try the Epley yourself at home. There are plenty of sites that purport to show you how to do it, but it can only effectively be done by a qualified practitioner because the timings of the different phases have to be exact. It won't harm you if you do it yourself, but it probably won't cure you either, and there's a risk it could leave you feeling terribly sick and dizzy till the next day.

    Greetings from Ecuador, mark45118.

My name is Freddy A. and I have vertigo since I was a child, I had a strong crisis when I was in high school, I did not move for 15 days, I was lying down because everything was spinning and I did not have balance, my eyes turned disoriented, from there I have panic attacks and sometimes a feeling of floating or dizziness.

I tell you that panic attacks cause me tachycardia, disorientation, a feeling of anguish as if someone died. The neurologist who treats me several years ago treats me with PAXIL, it is a medication that does not cause addiction, in your case I recommend you go to a neurologist.

A time when I sleep I get dizzy when I wake up, I recommend you sleep with your head tilted 30 °. Maybe you have positional vertigo and if you have anguish you would have panic attacks.

I send you a lot of positive energy so that you overcome this moment and that you manage to cope with this suffering in your life.

Apologies my english is not very good.
