Eyesight

sad My optician has referred me to a specialist Eye Infirmary after two high readings during a glaucoma test. She believes it could be early glaucoma or caused by amitriptyline (25mg - 50 mg for over 6 years for depression/sedation. My psychiatrist too feels it might be the drug causing eye problems. Will post again after results.

Glaucoma? I've been on a low dose of amitriptyline (2x25mg daily) on and off for 11 years. I've been having my intraocular pressure tested twice a year for the past 20 years - it ranges between 17 and 21 units (21 is the upper limit for normal but most peoples' eyes can tolerate more than that without damage). I'm aware that ami is listed on the patient advice leaflet as being a possible cause of higher intraocular pressure. I've kept a record of my pressure readings for 20 years and have to tell you they are completely unaffected by how much ami I am taking or whether or not I am taking it at all.

Have been prescribed amitriptyline 50mg for severe migraines. I have multiple health problems and had a lower dose (5 & 10mgs) previously to reduce joint pain with not many problems. Since taking 50mgs I have put on a stone in weight and increasing, am utterly exhausted and feel hung over every morning (I am tee-total)!! As I already have sicca syndrome (dry mouth/eyes), this medication has made these much worse. Want to stop taking it but worried about medical professionals reaction.

I just happen to stumble over this conversation. I have been on AMI for six months and lately have had horrible pain in my eyes and i have put on 25 pounds or better since I have started it.

I am on 20mg a night for tension headaches and migraines. maybe this is a too lower dose to be getting eye problems as my eyes have been ok apart from dry eyes and a bout of conjunctavitis. I have not experienced any weight gain. maybe visit your optician?
