Eyhance and Clareon monofocal experience?

Posted , 10 users are following.

I've been considering both Eyhance and Clareon monofocal IOLs, but the decision is difficult since large scale clinical trials are not available, at least that I know of. Since happiness and visual acuity are difficult to quantify, it would be very helpful to learn about any negative experiences with either lens among forum readers (whether toric or not). In other words, it might be more helpful to learn about quantifiable complications such as PCO, dysphotopsias, and refractive surprises. Many thanks!

Those are both very fine IOLs from two different manufacturers. Most cataract surgeons stick with just one manufacturer. Either one would serve you well. Yes, some patients end up having issues with one particular IOL or the other, but that is to be expected. You can Google " A comparison of clinical outcomes and optical performance" and read a study comparing the Eyhance with the Tecnis 1 piece (a pure monofocal like the Clareon but older,) where the Eyhance is said to provide better near and intermediate vision and excellent distant vision. However, I did have cataract surgeons tell me that the Eyhance, in their experience, was "overhyped." But some patients on this forum have said they were very satisfied with the Eyhance.

I went with the Tecnis I piece because I like products that that have been tried and tested. All these IOLs mentioned are less likely to cause dysphotosias than a premium IOL. PCO is always a possibility with any IOL. The American Academy of Ophthalmology says PCO occurs in 20 to 50 percent of all patients with 2 to 5 years. Refractive surprises do happen. You can search this forum and read the many comments of other patients about those IOLs, but in the end it is a personal choice. Find a cataract surgeon you trust, who spends time with you, and with whom you feel comfortable, and you should do well.
