Face sometimes cramps when I yawn

Ever since I have PmR 11/15, I occasionally get a facial cramp if I yawn. Does this happen to anyone else? TMJ maybe?

Possibly same as any other cramps? Magnesium supplements as a start?

If I take Mg I get the trots; I've tried to increase magnesium rich foods.

Try the Epsom salts bath or foot bath to avoid having to take a magnesium capsule. Magnesium is also available as a spray, I think. But if it's something mechanical maybe you need a physiotherapist to prescribe an exercise or two? Or do dentists also help with this kind o symptom? Sounds very painful.

I went to a dentist who said he was not the one to see and advised that there is a Physical Therapist for this particular problem in my small town. I didn't go but got an infection a couple of months later, took antibiotics, and now have a special mouthwash. My mouth joint seems more stable and I can eat, most times, without fear of recurring problem. Part of this may be from osteoporosis and few teeth to chew with, all on that side. Thanks for listening.

How interesting! I have both PMR and GCA, and have been on pred. for 1 1/2 years. Like you I get a wee cramp in my neck when I yawn. I didn't associate it with the steroids. Now I wonder! The cramp lasts a few seconds.

I woke up yawning and my jaw went out of joint. For about a month I had to hold onto my jaw when coughing or yawning to keep it in place.
