Facial and head tightness

Posted , 4 users are following.

Im 22 y/o male, and have feels as though my cheek and top left side of jaw is tight. It feels as tho it spreads to my left eye (warm sensation), left ear (ear fullness) and into my mouth. Its not servere just disconcerning. There is a slight numbness across the left of my face too but I dont have any other symptoms like drooping, slurred speech or anything.

Could this be caused by anxiety although i am not feeling anxious, if anything these feelings are making me feel anxious rather than the other way round.

Any ideas? Thank you

Definitely anxiety I would say! I am suffering with a numb face, mainly cheek, today and I don’t feel particularly anxious.

Health anxiety can be so cruel, I’ve been checked out many a time!

Yeah thats what worries me when you feel almost completely fine but are still experiencing the symptoms. As long as you can tell yourself its anxiety and nothing more i find it can help. Still not a particularly great experience though!

which symptoms did you have with your original anxiety?

Oh plenty. Started with panic attacks, around 2/3 bad ones a day. Palpitations, chest pain, numbness in all different parts of the body, vision problems (things blurred and changing colour), headaches, feeling that i was going to die, feeling agitated, and thats only the symptoms i can name off the top of my head

I was also bed ridden for about a month, hardly ate, couldn't sleep, i think i lost about 1 and a half stone in the space of a month which i've now gained back. I would get dizzy and feel spaced out alot, and also have feelings that nothing is real and feel in a dream like state. It was scary stuff. I still get it every now and then too

How did you manage to recover from those symptoms??

Opening up to people was a first step, letting people be aware of your symptoms so they can understand and talk about it with you. Luckily i had very supportive people around me.

Looking on these forums helped me realise im not alone too.

I found that when i was experiencing a symptom or attack I would convince myself that it is 100% anxiety related and it will pass helped me alot too.

In a way, try not to give yourself a choice in what you think. If you have a chest pain and think 'it could be a heart attack' etc, just force yourself to say no its not. I know its alot easier said than done but it really helps when you learn how to do it

Yeah I have this as well, I know it's anxiety because I felt fine and took my blood pressure randomly and it was a little high. Logically I know I've gotten my BP checked many times and I'm text book perfect but for some reason it set off my anxiety (cause maybe they missed something) and sure enough tight neck, cheeks and head this week. I'm decompressing and have a regiment for reducing anxiety which started the next day when I knew I was anxious again.

I have a BP checker at home i used to use all the time whenever i'd have anxiety issues but my blood pressure was always spot on too!

What is this regiment you say you have?

When I get home from work every night I get a bath to relax my muscle tension. Then I meditate for about an hour. I try to clear my mind and ride the wave if I have a panic attack. I'll have to do that until my anxiety let's up and calms down. I know what to do now when my anxiety is thick, mostly do the most relaxing thing you can that takes your mind off it and do it every night. It gives your mind a break and lightens the anixety a little at a time smile
