Failed mid foot fusion

Posted , 2 users are following.

I had a mid foot fusion and all was well until 10 months post op when the foot became painful  and a PET scan confirmed non union. I had a revision earlier last year, a larger plate was used along with the addition of a bone graft. Unfortunately 10 months down the line my foot has become painful and I’m having a PET scan this week but I suspect another non union.

Has anyone undergone a third surgery and what is the likelihood of success?

Should I seek referral to a specialist centre?

Walking is very painful so I need to know what my options are.

Thanks

    HI jhub,

Sorry to hear, what was the outcome?

Im on my 3rd foot (big toe) surgery and believe it has failed again. I’m waiting to get another CT scan for confirmation. 2nd surgery the plate and screws failed so they removed and reinstalled larger plate and screws with synthetic bone graft. Over followed the doctor said orders to a T. The surgeon is supposedly the best of the best in our area. At this point I don’t know what to do.

    Regards
