false eyelashes?

So I am currently seeing a rheum. and trying to figure out if I have an autoimmune issue.  She suspects sero-neg RA.....but we are still in early stages of figuring all this out.  I do have joint erosion, multiple joint pain, raynaud's, fatigue.....etc.

I doo have a question about dry eyes.  Can people with sjogrens tolerate false eyelashes?  I ask because I have tried every brand out there, cheap to expensive, trying to find one I can stand to have on my eyes.  It just feels like there is sand in my eyes constantly.  I know I am putting them on right.....I've been trying them for awhile.  I never get used to them, even after hours.  I want to rip my eyes out!

Mascara is not great, either.  But there is this tube mascara that isn't so bad.  Tubes just slide off with warm water.

Could this be a sjogrens's thing?

I also have very dry mouth, which I always blamed on not drinking enough water....

But I am starting to add things up and it's making me wonder if this might be related to my other issues.

I have similar problems if I wear them for more than 3-6 hours and only do so on very special occasions.  I do believe it is the glue or adhesive that is the cause of the problem.  I quit using make-up about 5 years ago because they generally have chemicals in them can can trigger more problems for me.  If I do decide to wear make-up, I use only the most natural that I can find which I usually find at a health store.  I have found lotions, lipsticks and mascaras that do not cause any irritation.  I am also careful with lipsticks because some brands cause irritation on my lips (particularly dark red color).  If I really want red color, sometimes I put on a base of chapstick and then I select a brand of lipstick I know won't irritate.  My eyes, really did feel much better when I quit wearing make-up, but if you don't want to do without it -- find the most natural, non-irritant brands possible.  Hope that helps!

I've never worn false eyelashes, but used to wear fairly heavy mascara till a year or so ago, when I started having a really bad problem with dryness in one eye. Now I can't even wear that, except for a few hours at a time, and on special occasions. I've also had to give up on the type that "lengthens" your eyelashes by attaching little fibres to them.

I suppose it's not the end of the world for me, as I'm in my 70s, but I do sympathise.

Thanks guys!  Lilly, have you tried the tube type mascara?  I seem to be able to tolerate that.  I saw expensive ones online, but there are brands in the drugstore and I have one I like.  The fiber ones flaked off and irritated my eyes, too.

The tubes don't flake at all.  And you don't need make up remover.  Soak a washcloth in warm water and the tubes slide right off.

I wish I could wear falsies....was trying to find an alternative to mascara in general.  I even bought the super natural, organic, gentle, expensive ones online from a friend, and had to return them.  She said I could get a refund, but she had to look up how to do that because she'd never had one person return them....said EVERYONE just loves them.  Sigh.

I'd never heard of tube mascaras before you mentioned them. I found a site that dealt with them but it immediately crashed my Mac so I'll try and find another site.

I got mine at the drugstore.  L'Oreal makes one, but I'm sure there are others.  The tubes are the thing that are different. smile

One more tip, I have found coconut oil to be an excellent makeup remover.  Just use a few drops, and then when you finish a cloth damp with hot water to wipe the area.
