false-neg herpes test rates??? PLS HELP. PLS READ.

i encountered unprotected intercouse on 06/20/20. exactly 20 days after that i experienced shooting nerve pain in my hips & knees before i went to bed. next day there was a bump nearing my vaginal opening, it hurt when urine ran over it. unfortunately this was during the weekend so i could get checked immediately. the dr said the bump didn't look like herpes and that she didn't see anything internal during the exam that looked worrisome. the bump went away, and haven't had any other problems because terrible urinary probs. my urethra hurts like a UTI (treated for one 3 weeks ago) but the burning urethra sensation hasn't subsided at all. dr prescribed me another antibiotic and now it almost feels WORSE. she took swabs and blood labs and they came back NEGATIVE. is it possible its a false negative? i haven't had any other bumps or sores or anything of the sort, no itching, just the urinary tract issues.

also, my fiancé (not the possible exposure candidate) experienced a flu-like illness the same week my bump appeared, was sick for 3 days. he's still experiencing some illness but i think its just a common cold. we' ve had sexual intercouse and oral as well but neither of us have had any cold sores. although i do have painless pus pockets on my throat??? somebody please help me. i have an 8 month old son and i am so scared of the possibility of transmitting it to him by kissing him! (even on the cheek

Hey, considering the fact that the test came back negative might mean that you do not have herpes. However, it is important to note that herpes bump swabs are most effective at testing within the first 48 hours of a blister, sore, bump, or lesion present. I dont want to scare you and tell you that you have herpes but its important to note that you might have gotten tested a little too late for the right diagnosis. Im no doctor though, so the best thing you can possibly do is speak to him again and tell him how concerned you are. If it makes you feel any better, i had an outbreak of bumps last week and went to my GYNO right away and although she said mine look like herpes, turns out that i have a really bad yeast infection that led to sores. Also, the whole thing with your husband getting sick might be a coincidence. But like i said, the best thing you can do is talk to your doctor again because no one on this forum can fully help you. Its possible it could be a bladder issue like you have stared. I Hope i helped in some way. Message me if anything.

thank you! i keep trying to give it the benefit of doubt but some days are harder than others. i'm going to get re-tested in a month or two. it's just hard not to be scared.

That sucks to hear. But just FYI a blood test should be taken 12-16 weeks after potential exposure. otherwise a false negative is likely. At least if the blood test was for antibodies. hope it all works out for you.

she didn't specify to me what kind of test was taken and i'm pretty sure they're getting annoyed with my 1,000 phone calls. 3 months is a long time to be constantly anxious and stressed. but thank you

I agree with you 3 months is a long time. I'm unfortunately in that boat right now. I just thought I should share that information with you. I'd do anything to be able to tell right this minute.
