FAST ACTION AFTER STROKE

PUBLICITY ON FAST ACTION ON STROKE SEEMS TO HAVE ONE MAJOR PROBLEM WHICH IS IN THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN TO THE EMERGENCY AMBULANCE SERVICE TO TAKE ANY PERSON TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL WHICH IN CASES OF A STROKE COULD RESULT IN THE INITIAL CRITICAL TREATMENT (THE TESTS (MRI AND THE TREATMENT NOT BEING AVAILABLE AT THE HOSPITAL PLACING THE PATIENT IN A HIGH RISK OF DEATH OR PERMANENT DAMAGE.

IN ADDITION THE HOSPITAL MAY NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP TO \"NICE\" GUIDE LINES ON NEED FOR OPERATION ON CARORID ARTERIES TO TAKE PLACE WITHIN A MAXIMUM OF 14 DAYS.

WHAT CAN BE DONE TO CHANGE THIS AND ENSURE THAT STROKE SUFFERERS ARE TAKEN TO THE RIGHT HOSPITAL.?

THERE IS LITTLE POINT IN EDUCATING THE PUBLIC IF THE NHS AND THE PCT PERFORM IN SUCH A POOR MANNER.

    This is a huge problem. My father was taken to a a hospital which does not have the CT scan available 24 hours a day - he should not have been taken there.

    A more interesting question is how to Ambulance services know what is offered anyway as I have complained about service and been told by director of nursing her hospital does offer 24 hr scan service and is looking into why this was not offered my father. I know the right questions to ask as I work in NHS however this can not take me back in time and improve the care he received it is so frustrating.

    The problem of the ambulance aervice not allowed to deliver a stroke victim to an appropiate hospital is wide spread and well known

    .

    It is all \"well and good \" in highloghting the problem BUT HOW DO WE GET REAL ACTION TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM?????

    my dad had a mini stroke on thur it was such a shock he was out shoppin and felt unwell lost thefeelin down one side so he jumped into taxi to hosp his feelin eventully came back apart from his hand he got out on the fri but has to go back 2day for scans and tests his breathing and spech has changed and druling at mouth they said the veins in his neck r not getting to his brain and mite need operation the hosp he was in had all the machines but he was told to come back 2day not happy as it should have been done straight away fingers crossed it will be ok
