Fast heart rate.

So around 1:00 AM Monday I rushed to the ER because my heart was pounding so fast and I felt like I was gonna pass out, by the time I got to the ER I was so scared that I was gonna die that my pulse was 186 BPM, they gave me medication by IV to slow my heart rate and it wasn't working the best, so they sent me by ambulance to another hospital. There I had 2 ekgs, and lots of blood samples. They all came back normal.. I'm now out of the hospital but I still feel convinced something is wrong with my heart and I find it helps ease my anxiety sharing with others that suffer from bad anxiety.

    Hi Nicholas,

I get racing heartbeat when extremely anxious and stressed.

Hope you can calm your heart. Slow breathing and distractions work for a friend I know.

Thank you, the slow breathing sometimes works for me, I try to focus on my breathing.

I understand completely.. Mine wasn't that bad but its still scary.. I was put on bp meds to slow my heart rate down and palpations.. Just remember anxiety causes so much to our bodies but it won't kill us... Stay positive and try meditation good stuff on you tube. Breathing helps a lot. Don't goggle symptoms it makes it worse.. ❌❌❌

I know how you feel. In the beginning,  back in June I had the same thing. My heart rate was just as high as yours. In a few months all that stopped. You will get through it. I use to wake up with panic attacks,  and heart pounding super fast. Hangin there.

Its hard when anxious but when calm listen to your body.

It does tell you when things are going wrong.

Anxiety is evil and plays with your mind, therefore creating more anxiety.

Its not an easy time for you and I truly understand.

    Big hug xx

    Nicholas (and rn)

I'm no doc but beta blockers are made to reduce max heart rate.  I tried atenolol to help stop panic attacks, not strong enough for that but may help you, something to discuss with your docs, did they mention that?

sertraline stopped my attacks but took awhile and has more side effects.   I noticed in a gym my max heart rate was 140 on atenolol, 175 off it.  People with stage fright, like musicians, take beta blockers before concerts.  It was a common HTN Rx but there are other high bp meds now.

I take metaprolol but a super small dose since my blood pressure is 90/55

So I don't want it to lower it anymore

What side effects did you have with setrsline ?

Everyone's different, unlikely yours will be just like mine .  I had increased anxiety for a few weeks, butterfly in stomach lump in throat nervousness but that went away as I got used to med.  For me, that was worth better sleep and no panic attacks.

I catch my self shaking my foot for no reason, not too often, just indicates I have physical anxiety (mental anx about same, stopped panic.)   I've had paxil, expect to have more sx when I start to withdraw it, will do so very gradually.

Sert takes a few weeks for benefits,  frustrating to just get side effects of increased anxiety then.  If your experience is panic, I don't know that it would increase during those weeks but should decrease later.  I said everyone's different but I don't see it helping your panic immediately, that's why docs often give a few weeks of a benzo like klonopin to stop the attacks now, till ssri works.

I figure anxious people like you and I will always be afraid to take drugs, that's normal, but don't worry, we can always stop them.  Another issue for me is I get "brain zaps" and insomnia when I try to withdraw, you might not have those side effects,  I needed to taper paxil very gradually, now on low dose sert.

btw, since you're anxious about taking it, start off low, get a pill cutter if needed, and let your dr. know.

Well i have Xanax as needed but, im super anxious like what If my heart rate will be high always due To SSRIs , and I don't even go out too far from home cuz I'm scared of the attacks , have you ever had that ?

And did you ever take klonopin ? Is it better than Xanax

I take ativan and its the same as xanax and klonopin.. All benzos.. They work pretty fast.. Just depends on mg. It takes the edge off and makes me relaxed.

How often you take it ?

I take it maybe once a month and .25 mg once a day !

I don't Want to get addicted

Mines 0.5 mg and I take 1-4 a day. Depends on my anxiety. I took it four years ago and didn't get addicted. I was off it until sept of this year..

I don't know that ssri increases heart rate much (would reduce rate during atttack if it stops panic.)

I think xanax is a bit faster acting than klonopin but as noted they're similar.
