I know this is an old thread but thought I would add my experience too.

I've had Celiac for 5 years. When I do get gluten I never notice a heart rate increase, until yesterday and now doing some research to see if there really is a gluten connection. Ate at a restaurant and got contaminated, felt the stomach pains within 45 minutes, next few hours huge stomach. I also felt my heart rate was high so I checked it and it was 110. I too took some beta blockers, it helped but was still arond 88 a cpl hrs later.

I also have the symptoms of high / fast heart rate. I feel like this is caused by the inflammation of celiac. What happens (what I've researched) is once you eat gluten the inflammation begins attacking the thyroid gland causing a increase in thyroid hormone.

In turn that creates the elevated heart rate like having an overactive thyroid.

Lots of research but I am not a doctor. You can find this Information all over the web though.

I have episodes atrial fibrillation. Each episode doesn't normally last more than 12 hours . First diagnosed 17 years for AF and I'm now 52 . I'm on meds for the AF but my diet is a major trigger . First I cut wheat out and my episodes dramatically dropped . Still had episodes not as frequent so traced diet back to find cheese also a trigger .. Then after cutting out the two this summer I had a week of AF and all the symptoms you've mentioned Chloe. Traced diet back to Cream that I had with strawberries. So now 17 years after being first diagnosed with AF ive had to personally work out my triggers . Wheat (Gluten) Cheese and Dairy . Ever since in my teens I've had episodes but I was always told the attacks were down to panic attacks . I now know the fast heart rate and flutters was not anxiety etc . but it was wheat, cheese and Dairy sensitivities. I do need meds to keep my heart steady but also I have to keep free of the triggers mentioned . For years I was told alcohol was triggering my AF and also caffeine etc..when socialising i tried alcohol free beer and decaf but still had episodes . I've realised now in my case it was the wheat in the beer and milk more than the alcohol and caffeine. Now I know the triggers for once in my life i now I actually feel I'm in charge .

hi chloe, i don't quite understand. what do you mean your heart races, do you have other symptoms with it? it sounds like a panic attack, it's probably the result of accidentally trying gluten. what happened as i am sure you didn't intend on eating gluten! try not to eat it obviously but it happens so as long as you remember you should be fine. have you been diagnosed with either coeliac disease or a gluten intolerance? the tiredness will be because your poor body has had something it doesn't cope well with. whoops! when you shop just be really careful with ingredients, which i am sure you are already doing.

this happen to me right after eating chobani yogurt or any yogurt that has active cultures. Avoid these types of yogurts in the future. So yes it is possible to have a heart flutter after eating something. Avoid caffeine etc. If you're unsure as to what you can or can't have, best start a list. Like the other morning. I purchase what was suppose to have been caffeine free coffee.. but the attendant mixed dark roast with mild roast. Thus I developed a sight flutter and I no longer will purchase coffee from convenient stores as those who brew these coffees are not aware of the consequences.

Yes, it is correct findings for me. I also had faced the same sort of experience. I have realized recently noticed that after eating the meal with gluten, my heart rated increased to 100 to 110 and constantly remained under the same rhythm. It has increased the palpitations of my heart. Today i have eaten boiled rice with lentils. I did not see any symptom. It vanish the palpitations. I think it is a matter of digestions system which force more pressure to the heart, when it processing the food in the stomach. I hope so this should be helpful for you - Many Regard

SAME thing happened to me, for years, so tired I had to lie down, couldn't even function. So I just stopped eating carbs mid day because it would impact my ability to work at my job. NO ONE could tell me what this was. My heart rate would sky rocket, I would have heart palpitations all day long. One day I decided to cut out gluten, just to see if it would help with some health concerns. About 1 month after cutting gluten heart palpitations GONE, no tiredness after eating. SHAME that no Dr would suggest this. But glad it is an easy fix.
