Fasting for normal test

i normally have my cholestoral sugar and all the normal annual bloodwork done each year . i am used to fasting 12 hours before the exam . i have a later appt and my dr is claiming the new practice is you only need to fast 4-5 hrs before the exam. is this the norm? do you agree or disagree.

    Disagree,our clinic has you watch some things in your diet 2 days before tests now,its a very well known hospital in the U.S. no way would i rely on tests being accurate on only having a 4 to 5 hr fast.

      I was always told to fast from the night before onwards. Also your diet for the few days before will show up in the reading.. our cholesterol changes daily. Maybe its not a true cholesterol panel they are requesting, a fasting one is for the ratio and trigs etc.
