Fat, fat, everywhere fat

I'm finally down to 6 mg of Prednisone but still have NOT lost a pound of the 20 that I've gained over the past year.  I know that's nothing compared to the pain that many still suffer, but the extra weight is causing physical and mental pain for me.

I've lowered carbs, eat no bread products or desserts, but this Prednisone weight won't budge.  My doctor told me that 7 mg is the magic number for things to turn around, but I suppose mine must be different.  Or, it's VERY, VERY SLOW.  Anyone else?

Lots of people don't lose the weight until fully off pred I'm afraid. I do wish doctors would stop telling patients that PMR goes away in 2 years, that weight goes at dose x of pred. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT!!!!!

You lowered carbs - how low? I have to eat less than 50g of useable carbs to lose anything and even then it is very slow. That means no fruit, leafy veg not root veg. You have to count milk and all sorts of things you probably use. It is pretty hard and you need a load of discipline unfortunately.

Well I seem to enjoy plenty of food! I eat meat, poultry, cheese, eggs, leafy veg and salads, nuts, seeds,

I don't eat bread except as a real treat - and today I had half a kamut roll with chicken and lettuce and a tomato or 4 for lunch. Dinner was cold chicken and salad and asparagus. I never eat cake - except as a very special treat. I DO eat an icecream now and again. After all - I live in Italy!

I feel your pain as I am in the same boat. Was never slim but now...13 stone. Yipes. Like a whale. In the tummy boobs & legs. Desperate to join a club for tubby & unfit women but none exist. Try to do 10k steps per day and for lent gave up bread carbs rice spuds etc. (I miss bread).

First thing my rheumy said when he saw me was 'you will need to join watchers or slimmers world'. Ugh 😩.

Oh, Pam, just like me!  I am down to 5 mg predict!  Ugh. I just keep plugging on. I have severe degenerative lumbar also. Nothing wrong with bones prio to pred, but, my activities went from 4-5 miles daily, to, almost nada.  But thanks to pred, I can do things, hang in there, JUDY

I am at 4.5 and the only time I lose weight is, as Eileen has said, if I cut the carbs. Look at them sideways and it's all back on. The positive is I can function. It's a game of patience and hope. My face has thinned and the hump has gone.

Well done Silver! I'd really like my face back! I still have my hump but I'm still around 5.25 so you give me hope! Did that all go with a carb free effort or did it just melt away, as someone on here once said. If only... What a joy....

I'd like to say it was lowering carbs but it's not. I'm now trying to lower the carbs again as I see the good weather. I bought a cheap spiralizer and it's good for cutting carbs and filling up with courgetti etc. instead of pasta. I understand your frustration as I feel the same.

Ha! I'd actually rather hear that the hump and fat face went all by itself! It's my dream... I wake up one day and it has melted away... Hehe.. I have a spiralizer as well. Need to get back into the habit of using it. Not totally crazy about courgettes, but I guess with these sunny days, like you, I can get into the low carb kerry on a bit easier. Good Luck! Look forward to hearing of your progress. Maybe even meet up one of these days! 😎

Thank you.The downside is that the wrinkles have returned. Will try to keep you updated. That may stop my halo from slipping!! Perhaps we could meet up. Now that would be an incentive.

That is the problem when you find your cheekbones again!!! Me too!

I should be in Fife in August - maybe we could really meet up. Unless of course you can't face meeting me "in real" wink

I love courgettes and stuff so it isn't too bad for me. I use a veg peeler to make substitute lasagne strips. And I love moussaka - aubergines, bol sauce and a topping of an egg beaten in Greek yoghurt. OH tried it in a Greek restaurant in Innsbruck - and much to my delight decided he liked aubergine after all! My daughters have also discovered a liking (or at least tolerance) for veggies - why couldnt that all have happened when they were all still at home!!! rolleyes

      Now, aubergines I love!

Let us know when you are going to be here Eileen. I think we can cope with meeting you in real life... What do you think Silver? 😄

It would be a good opportunity to meet up and nice to put faces to names.

Yes. It would be good to meet up in August. I hope I will have shifted some of the weight by then. I know what you mean about the veggies. Have just had a conversation with a friend about this regarding our respective grandchildren. At least mine are taking some...... though limited in variety.

A device that you can use to make spaghetti or linguine-shaped noodles out of vegetables. Google it - loads of pictures.
