Fat, fat, everywhere fat

I'm finally down to 6 mg of Prednisone but still have NOT lost a pound of the 20 that I've gained over the past year.  I know that's nothing compared to the pain that many still suffer, but the extra weight is causing physical and mental pain for me.

I've lowered carbs, eat no bread products or desserts, but this Prednisone weight won't budge.  My doctor told me that 7 mg is the magic number for things to turn around, but I suppose mine must be different.  Or, it's VERY, VERY SLOW.  Anyone else?

I am also now at 6.5 pred and holding for a bit.  I gained roughly 20 pounds with the pred and can't budge it either.  I jog, bike ride, or do at least 10,000 steps a day.  I do better if I cut all carbs but as soon as I don't the tiny bit I lost pops right back on.  I'm stuck at the 20 pound gain and am happy just not to be gaining anymore.  I try to keep my calories around 1,800, keep the carbs as low as I can, no sweets at all.  In the old days when I gave up all sweets for Lent I would easily drop 10 pounds. Nope. Not anymore.  I am thankful that I am beginning to be able to work out with light weights and no issues.  That is wonderful.  So I feel I am making progress. Hate the hair growing on my face but have taken to SHAVING - ugh!  Oh well.  I am so grateful I can be active.  I'll keep trying to slowly, slowly taper.  Good luck with your weight - I am feeling your frustration as I have it too!

Hi Pam,  Most of us can relate to your weight gain and the feelings it brings. I didn't gain weight at first but then I wasn't being as conscientious about what I ate and my weight started creeping up. I ended up gaining about 30 lbs. I became increasingly depressed about it. I had read Eileen's post that she had lost 38 lbs doing a low carb way of eating. I started researching on what and how to eat low carb and found a terrific website. (I don't know if I'm able to say what that website is in this reply as some posts get deleted by the moderator for that)  The website isn't only about weight loss but health and really goes contrary to how we have been told to eat for years. What I read and listened to made a lot of sense. You eat in ways ( low carb foods) to avoid spiking your blood sugars  and having your body pumping out insulin steadily to compensate. Insulin promotes fat storage. So if you eat so your body doesn,t constantly produce insulin it will start using the fat you have stored for energy.  You also eat high fat foods like butter, bacon, cheese. They keep you satisfied longer and you don't count calories. Weight loss is slow but it is working for me. I've lost 14 lbs. It doesn't change that I have the round face that Prednisone lovingly gives me but I am feeling better about the weight issue. I went through my closet a couple weeks ago and got rid of all the clothes that no longer fit me. It was too discouraging going in there seeing them knowing it will be a long time (if ever)  that I can wear them again. It was liberating. Ive had to buy new clothes along the way of course but most in my closet was the old me😕. If you want to check out that website I found you can private message me or if someone tells me it's ok to share it here I can. I wish you well.  The weight gain it is tough to handle especially since there's so much else going on to cope with.

You can always try a short post with the name - I sometimes name sites, I don't give the link but sometimes I choose a few words you can google to find it.

Maria, congrats on the weight loss! I would love to find out the name of the website.  Don't I have to have your name to pm you? I've been eating mostly low carb, but I guess "mostly" is sufficient.  I'll lose 3 pounds only to gain them back the next day.   I've started biking and walking short distances, but that hasn't helped much either...yet.

Thank you you and everyone else for the responses! I so appreciate it. 🤗

To send a pm you click on the silver grey envelope under a person's avatar on a post.

To lose weight by low carb eating "mostly" isn't low enough for some people! I can't eat more than about 30g useable carbs - that is about 1/2 a bread roll where I live (they are small) plus leafy veg and salads. No fruit - just an apple and a banana these days can take you to well over 50g carbs!

I like it - not paying to join but what I can see looks my sort of approach!

Saw a tv program a while ago which examined several of the popular diets, all of which worked to help people lose weight, at least for a time.  They were quite different but all had one thing in common.  No added sugar.  All of them said skip the sweets, even though their approach to the rest of the diet varied.
