Father has strange illness, feels violently sick on and off, help?

For no clear reason, my father started having periods in which he's violently ill, drained of energy, sweatng, unable to stay still, pain everywhere, feeling sick in the stomach, and it goes on for about 10 to 20 minutes before he gradually recovers.

There's nothing we can do to stop the illness from happening. Eating and drinking don't help. Doctor says there's nothing wrong with his heart, blood sugar or the stomach itself.

Anything suggestions?

He needs to have his heart assessed as soon as possible. These are all signs of heart disease.

Hi, Yes, I did read that the doctor said his heart is okay. Just concerned because sometimes doctors need to take a deeper look...maybe do more testing to be sure. Since he is sick at his stomach, did they check your Dad for pylori bacteria in his stomach, or for C-Diff in his stool? Sometimes there can be very hidden problems which work themselves out or the symptoms become more clear so the doctor knows what direction to take in testing. The sweating, pain everywhere, and feeling sick at his stomach...all these passing after a while...seem sort of like shock symptoms...symptoms that occur when the body is under stress for physiological reasons. I wish I could help you better. Your Dad needs to stay under the care of a doctor and perhaps even add a doctor or get a second opinion. Also look very closely at what preceeds these events to see if you can find a common thing that occurs before, or a food he eats, or activity, or environment, etc. before these symptoms occur. That may help the doctor know what tests to run. I wish you all the best. I hope your Dad can find help and be well.

Did they check your Dad's gallbladder and liver? Also, does he have pain in he back, flank area? Both kidney and gallbladder/liver issues can cause very severe pain and sweating. The fact you say he can't stay still...that is a symptom sometimes associated with people who are in severe pain due to kidney stones. A person can have kidney stones which are small, which move from time to time, and cause pain which passes. Usually if this happens there will be blood in the urine, though it may not be visible blood, but rather microscopic blood. Also kidney stones show on scans. Gallbladder/liver, kidney, and gastrointestinal symptoms can all cause this feeling sick at the stomach feeling. If this continues, and you can not find the source that triggers these events for your Dad, I think you should seek further testing or another medical opinion. Again, wishing you all the best.

    Hi ElizaxLeo

As your dad had some sort of stomach virus or food posioning in the last 6 months, as this can flare up again, even though you think it as cleared up.

If not and you are really worried about your dad and your doctor doesn't seem to be doing anything, speak to someone  at your local emergency department to see if they think it is worth him popping in.

Hope you find out soon what is wrong with your father.

All the best and have a Happy New Year.
