Fatigue

I'm 5 months post op ( 6 months at end of January) and still suffer from extreme fatigue. Especially if I've been on my feet all day, but pretty much every day, at times it is literally debilitating!

Have others at my stage experienced this or is there something else going on?

This is not a small issue. It's become pretty serious and affecting my daily life. I plan to see my doctor and tell him about it, but wondered if others have experienced it.

Thank you, Betty

Hi Betty, my daughter, a very fit athletic person, has just reminded me that after a relatively minor op, compared to ours, that she had last year she was totally fatigued for six months. She was convinced that there was something very wrong with her. However she is now back to climbing mountains, cycling and enjoying life again. So perhaps it is surgery in general that can have this effect.

Thank you Carol for sharing that. Yes, my fatigue could still be  from the op - we are told it takes at least a year to fully recover from TKR and we all heal at different rates.

If a younger person like your daughter experienced fatigue ( especially having such an active lifestyle!) then I should not be surprised it's taking me a little longer to bounce back. I guess I'm in denial that I'm getting old! I've always bounced back quickly from illnesses & such and had tons of energy! I miss the "old me" sad

      Thanks Carol - Betty

Hopefully the old you, and me, will be back soon. A little sun would help I think. So looking forward to the summer as last summer I was in so much pain I couldn't walk anywhere. I've just come back from an hour walking the dogs on the beach. Two days running now. When I did it a week ago I had to rest for a day. Progress!biggrin

Oh good for you Carol! An hour walk on the beach! Do you walk on the wet sand at low tide or the dry sand? Walking on sand is quite a challenge for me!

Where do you live? It's about a 3 minute drive from my house to the beach but I'm still not motivated enough to go and walk there. I can only manage a 30 minute walk around my neighborhood but I really need to step it up!

Last night was another restless sleep night and I'm feeling a bit grumpy today. I'm going out now for a walk and hope the fresh air helps my mood!

Hi Betty, I've been thinking about your comments on fatigue. I thought I wasn't too bad but I've been feeling really tired over the festive period and put it down to a bit of a virus I've picked up from the grandchildren. But I'm wondering now if it is still part of this darned recovery. I suppose I have started to do more and so I suppose getting more tired! Are you the same, perhaps? As our leg improves we start to do more and it takes its toll. I really enjoy my evenings in front of the tv and look forward to my cosy bed! Getting old I suppose 😴😴 Jen x

OMG Jen, I'm just like you! I also enjoy evenings in and look forward to MY cozy bed, and I think to myself what an old lady I'm becoming!

I think it's true that when we start feeling better we tend to over do it. Plus if you are fighting off a virus that will bring you down too.

Poor Lynn & her husband are fighting bad colds they also got from their grandchildren. So much of that going around, everywhere.

Take care my good friend. Spring will be here before we know it - looking forward to new/fresh beginnings smile

I've timed it and it's twelve minutes walk to the beach. I live in North Wales. The only sand I have problems with is the part where the wet sand has ridges, ok in dry or flat wet. It has been such a beautiful sunny weekend here and it has really lifted my spirits. A few weeks ago that 12 minutes seemed miles and I drove part of the way. No problems now though. And last night I had my longest, deepest sleep for months. The dogs slept too! cheesygrin

Wonderful Carol! Sounds so lovely where you live. When I'm not so tired, I will have to motivate myself to walk on our local beach. smile

Everytime I do I ask myself why I don't do it more often!

We all do that I think. I had to get on with it this week because hubby's not well. It;s done me the world of good.
