Fatigue - light sensitivity

For the last two years I have noticed I am suffering from extreme fatigue. I usually sleep on average 9 hours per night and I never wake up feeling that refreshed. If I sleep less hours, for example 6 I feel like I’m on another planet. My eyes are so sensitive from light that I squint even when it’s clouded, I have brain fog, slight lack of coordination, I feel it's hard to follow conversations with people. I'm not overweight, and never had issue with putting on weight. On the weekend I feel like napping in the afternoon, I get a huge crash at 3pm. By the end of the week on a Friday my brain is so tired that I struggle to work. I'm sure I get adequate sleep and even people around me sleep less and have more energy. I also feel like my skin is dry when I'm tired. strange symptoms and I don't know where to start. - I do eat healthy, do some exercise so I don't lead an unhealthy lifestyle. Anyone know what this could be?

Hi I wonder, do you have dry eyes and mouth? There could be several causes. Are you Hypermobile? if so look up the Beighton scale, have you ever had joint dislocation? Are your teeth OK? With a dry mouth, vagina or eyes you could have the Sicca symptoms. The tiredness is certainly chronic fatigue. Look up chronic fatigue in NHS. If you have pain, it may be fibromyalgia, look that up too. The light sensitivity is called photophobia, there could be several causes. If you have the sicca symptoms and cronic fatigue, and photophobia it may be a problem called Sjogren's Syndrome. Look that up too! Most people haven't heard of it, I hadn't! If you think that might be you ask your GP to do an ANA it's a blood test. If your Hypermobile try not to worry, are you short sighted, do you have to wear glasses or contacts, if so a pair of sunglasses may help. Do tell your GP I'd you are Hypermobile. It's nothing to worry about and due to an historical error few GP will have learnt from their medical schools mine hadn't and he's Hypermobile too! I told him! I hope this helps if you think you may have Sjogren's there is a charity the BSSA. I and my admins are members. The BSSA don't do FB but British Sjogren's is a FB group for members and those who have Sjogren's Syndrome. Good luck x

Hi, I'm wondering if it's a balance problem. Google labyrthinitis or BPPV.

It could be, I had labrythinitis last year and it's possible I am still recovering. I was just confused why it's taking so long and why my eyes are so sensitive to light.

This is just how I felt prior to being diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency and osteomalacia. I could never catch up on my sleep enough to feel normal, and felt like a mental zombie. Jobs that used to fly by could take all of an afternoon. I also had (and still have) ridiculously dry skin all over, but put that down to the thyroid problem I was diagnosed with at the same time. Both of these conditions can cause the type of symptoms you mention and can be readily checked with a simple blood test. What does your GP have to say?

Hi we have many members in British Sjogren's who have very dry skin Vit D deficiency and brain fog who are feeling unsteady. Some find coconut oil is brilliant and helps enormously

I did start taking Vit D3 recently, it did give me some energy. The fatigue I experience is so severe sometimes, for example at a music festival this weekend I slept through 2 bands in the main field, amongst people and loud music, but I felt the need to sleep there and then.

Have you had any bloods done, and if so, what did they reveal?

There sounds as if you you have a great deal of fatigue, do you wake up feeling sleep hasn't helped. If so you must explain this to your GP and ask him to do bloods, you may be anaemic, you may have a slightly raised ANA, you need to find out what is going on. Do you feel cold, are you getting strange feelings in your hands or feet. These may help your GP to decide what your probs are. Chronic fatigue can be caused by lots or things, heavy periods, weight gain,,weight loss, Vit deficiency etc

Hi Pam, I have been given the slip to get my bloods done but currently it's hard to fit into my schedule as it's actually at my hospital not my GP, I need to make time for it. This week I started taking Vitabiotics Feroglobin B12 which is a Iron, zinc bcomplex suppliment. I guess it's too early to tell but I actually feel 70% better already. I'm usually very very pale and my skin looks slightly pinkish, my concentration levels shot up and I have been very productive at work, which usually is very hard. So I guess it's hard to say now but maybe I was anemic or low on b12. The biggest change is how alive I look, I  usually look so washed out and ill, something even makeup cannot help with. Thanks for your message.

Oh and my body temperature feels lovely, I actually feel warm for once.

Well I am glad your body temperature feels better but please do make time to have your bloods done, this will give your GP all the information he needs to make a diagnosis. He will be looking for all sorts of possible causes, so good luck!
